Are you a cop, analyst, supervisor, or police leader who wants to learn realistic and practical ways to better address, deter, and prevent crime?

Not just theory.

Not academic buzzwords.

Not another training that sounds good in a classroom but falls apart when you get back to your agency.

I’m considering developing a **one-day, in-person training** focused on realistic, practical, and attainable proactive crime prevention strategies.

The goal would be to help officers, supervisors, analysts, and agency leaders better understand how to identify crime problems, break them down, recognize what is really driving them, and take practical steps to address them before they keep happening over and over again.

This training would be designed for the people out in the field doing the work, the supervisors leading them, and the decision-makers who want to build a stronger culture inside their agency.

A culture that moves beyond simply responding to the same problems over and over again.

A culture focused on smarter policing, stronger partnerships, better use of resources, and proactive prevention.

This would not be about telling cops they are doing things wrong.

It would be about giving officers and agencies realistic tools, strategies, and understanding they can actually take back and use.

I’m trying to gauge interest:

Would this type of one-day, practical training be something you, your agency, or your team would be interested in?

Please comment **Yes** or **No**.

If yes, please also comment what state you are from so I can get a better idea of where there may be interest.

I’m also open to ideas and suggestions. If this is something you would be interested in, what would you want to get out of the training? What topics, challenges, or practical takeaways would make it most useful for you or your agency?

“Real public safety begins when we care enough to see harm before it happens — and accept that preventing it belongs to all of us.”

This quote reflects much of what I have come to believe through my experience, education, and real-world view of public safety.

Too often, when people hear “public safety,” they immediately think of law enforcement. And make no mistake, law enforcement plays an incredibly important and necessary role.

Police officers respond to danger, protect victims, investigate crimes, arrest offenders, enforce laws, and help hold those who harm others accountable. There are people in this world who prey on others, victimize the innocent, create fear, and damage communities. We need trained, capable, and courageous officers who are willing to step into those situations and do the hard work that public safety often requires.

That reality cannot be ignored.

But public safety is still bigger than response and enforcement alone. It cannot rest only on the shoulders of law enforcement.

It belongs to all of us.

Police officers, analysts, emergency responders, healthcare providers, support services, schools, community leaders, businesses, neighbors, friends, and families all have a role in protecting the people, places, property, rights, and wellbeing of our communities.

This is not about replacing enforcement with idealism. It is about strengthening enforcement with prevention, awareness, partnerships, accountability, data, experience, and shared responsibility.

Safer communities are built when law enforcement and community partners work together to identify crime problems, understand underlying issues, use available resources, and take proactive steps before those problems grow into violence, victimization, disorder, and fear.

Is that easy? No.

Is it perfect? No.

But do I believe stronger, safer, more connected communities are possible when law enforcement leads with purpose, partners work together, and more people accept a role in prevention?

Absolutely.

Because real public safety does not begin after harm occurs.

It begins when we care enough to see it coming — and accept that preventing it belongs to all of us.

Before It Becomes the Culture: How Police Leaders Can Stop Toxicity From Spreading Inside the Agency 06/13/2026

A positive work environment inside a police agency does not happen by accident.

It has to be built, protected, reinforced, and maintained.

Officers need to feel valued, supported, recognized, and connected to the mission. They also need fair accountability, consistent standards, strong supervision, good FTOs, and leaders who understand the realities and frustrations of the job.

At the same time, no agency is perfect.

Every department will face internal challenges that can affect morale, influence attitudes, and shape the culture if they are ignored. The key is whether those issues are acknowledged early, addressed fairly, and prevented from becoming accepted as “just the way things are.”

My new article/blog is about maintaining a healthy police culture in the real world — not through slogans, forced positivity, or theory, but through leadership, accountability, consistency, documentation, supervision, and proactive prevention.

Because officers are far more likely to invest in the mission when they believe their agency is also investing in them.

Most people never see the harm that was prevented, the call that ended peacefully, the crisis that was de-escalated, the repeat problem that was addressed, or the partnership that kept something from getting worse.

That is the reality of prevention work.

Every day, police officers and their community partners are doing important work that often happens quietly and behind the scenes — identifying risks, solving problems, engaging with people, protecting places, supporting victims, disrupting violence, and keeping communities safe before the worst outcome occurs.

That work deserves recognition.

True public safety is not just about responding after something happens. It is also about the daily, proactive effort to prevent harm in the first place.

Smarter Policing. Safer Communities.

They deserve much more respect and appreciation than they are given.

Proactive Prevention Strategies, LLC | Evidence-Based Policing 06/04/2026

I’ve had quite a few new connections, friends, and followers recently, so I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you and welcome.

For those who may not know me, I’m a retired law enforcement professional and the founder of Proactive Prevention Strategies, LLC, where my focus is helping law enforcement agencies, leaders, officers, and community partners better understand and apply practical, realistic, evidence-based crime prevention strategies.

Much of my work is focused on bridging the gap between research and real-world policing in a way that supports realistic, practical, and sustainable proactive crime prevention.

I’ve also written two books that expand on these topics and are intended for practitioners, supervisors, leaders, students, and anyone interested in safer communities and smarter public safety approaches:
