⚠️ Moderate Risk of Excessive Rainfall Saturday ⚠️
The Weather Prediction Center has placed portions of southeastern Nebraska under a Moderate Risk for Excessive Rainfall on Saturday and Saturday night.
It's important to note that an Excessive Rainfall Outlook is not simply a forecast for heavy rain. Instead, it highlights areas where rainfall could become heavy enough to cause flash flooding.
Thunderstorms are expected to develop Saturday afternoon before organizing into a larger complex Saturday evening and overnight. While many locations may receive beneficial rainfall, some areas could see repeated rounds of storms that produce 2 to 4 inches of rain, with isolated amounts exceeding 5 inches.
If the heaviest rainfall develops over the same areas for several hours, flash flooding could occur, especially in urban areas, low-lying locations, and near creeks and streams.
The exact location of the heaviest rainfall and greatest flooding risk will become clearer as we get closer to Saturday, so be sure to check back for forecast updates.
