Okay. Here’s what I’ve been thinking about the Vocational Independence Program. If Jim Rien and Kim Pressler had learning disabilities and got their degrees, they would’ve been fair enough to at least give every VIP alumni a fighting chance.

Hi I was in I to I in 1994 and I am a 1997 graduate of of the vocational Independence Program. Does anyone hear from Carol Jockel? I was wondering how she was doing. I called NYIT Vocational Independence Program my home away from home.

This Holiday season, I believe that all students in every program will get a gift of skills, knowledge, and hope. Because we all have always known all differences are there to be worked around based people’s feelings, and confidence. So let’s all hope.
I am hoping that today’s NYIT’s students are doing well.
I am hoping on this day and age at the Old Westbury Campus...some students from Vocational Independence Program...and some students from outside Vocational Independence Program have been sharing a room together in the dormitory of brotherhood...and the dormitory of sisterhood.
I am hoping...today’s VIP students get exactly what they want without being limited by their learning differences.
I am hoping that all limited ambitions have all transformed into one situation that gives VIP students a fighting chance with good faith from today’s staff of Vocational Independence Program saying “If you can dream it, you can do it.”
I am hoping that today’s VIP’s students’ dream gave been turning into reality. And that includes those who want to try for a degree.
So please start praying and hoping for the students of the century.

On June 2, 2020 New York Institute of Technology announced that the Vocational Independence Program (VIP) and summer Introduction to Independence (I-I) program would be discontinued. We are deeply saddened to share this news, but rather than dwell we will look toward the infinite possibilities that lay before us. Professor Lopez, the Chair of the New York Tech Department of Occupational Therapy is bringing his Inclusive Sports Fitness approach to New York Tech, and has started that with the Vocational Independence Program students. This past year, Professor Lopez and several Occupational Therapy students have met three times per week with our VIP students in a science-based fitness initiative that works on not just fitness, but their sensorimotor, social, emotional, and cognitive abilities as well. We will be continuing and expanding this relationship in the coming years.

New York Tech's Big Give event coincides with World Autism Day -- a challenging time for us all, but if you are able to support New York Tech or VIP at New York Tech and donation is greatly appreciated!
