Teaching character, honor and responsibility, can only happen when people are given the opportunity to choose, have access to controlling their own lives and destinies. It leaves the world a little more uncertain but it does so in the confidence that our friends, family and communities will make the right choices and we will all benefit in the long run by people who actually grow up and act like adults.

It's a tool like any other.

To solving a problem of violence, what is the solution and how do we know?

If you learn about empirical problem solving, one of the first things that is taught is if you can find an exception to what you are calling the problem, then that is not actually the problem. Meaning that if I can find a person with a gun that doesn't use it for violence then that would be the exception to our "rule" that guns are the issue. There are many such cases of non-violent gun owners, therefore we have to look at these situations and say what is the real problem. If we can't find the actual problem, then there will never be a solution and possibly we can make the situation worse through "solutions" that are naive and negligent, even if well intention ed.

Our protests should be side by side as American's asking the government to put real work into finding the real problem with violent out bursts. We should be hand in hand striving to solve the problems in these peoples lives that push them to violence and then create solutions based on those problems. The decisive rhetoric of both sides, does not help either agenda. We will continue to gridlock and continue to rip our nation apart, while the people that need our help are continuously left to perish.
