Not too long ago I had the opportunity to work with Zachary Hansen, SE at ARW Engineers Inc. in determining factors of safety against yielding for a truss assembly being used in one of their projects.

This was the perfect opportunity to use ANSYS submodeling and virtual bolt threads (Bolt Thread Contact Geometry Correction) to simplify yet provide accurate results all while leveraging symmetry in two axes.

I have attached some pictures from the project.

Overall, I am very pleased with the outcome of this project and would welcome the opportunity to work with them again on any future projects.

Just reading up on the differences between linear triangle elements (CST), quadratic (LST), four-node rectangular elements (Q4) and 8/9-node rectangular elements (Q8/Q9) and the benefits of each. Good to get back to the fundamentals of FEA.

I just started working with Mr. Ed Schultheis with www.schultek.com again on one of his projects for a safety tool lanyard design. I look forward to this project and know it will be successful just like our previous project.
