This is what happens when bees get hot…honey bee brood needs to be kept at 93-97 degrees, so if it’s too hot in the hive, the bees will hang out on the front porch, just like people, lol ❤️🐝

This is the reality of not wearing at least a veil when you are playing with bees…ouch!

Beautiful picture of the queens retinue…they care for her, feed her and remove her f***s, so all she needs to do is lay eggs! Up to 2000 a day in the spring…amazing!

We learned that the drones only job is to mate with the queen, but how do they accomplish this and what makes them different from the female honey bee? Well, as you can see, they are stockier and they have a rounded bottom. Drones do not have a stinger, because they do not help defend the hive, remember...their only job is to mate with the queen. To accomplish their one and only job, their eyes are very large and meet in the middle. This is to help them spot the queen in flight. They also have one extra segment on their antennae which is designed to detect the queen’s pheromone in flight. If they do not mate with a queen, they will return to the hive, but they may stay over in a foreign hive if they don’t make it back to the original. They are not a threat and so they are allowed in. These drones may not do a lot, but what they do is so important! They are incredible and vital little creatures!
