Charity, a young nursing student in her final year is one of GAIA’s grads-to-be. She calls her GAIA scholarship “life changing,” not merely because it covered tuition for a poor young woman from a rural village, but because the wrap-around support eased her stress and allowed her to excel in school. Your generosity realizes the dreams of hundreds of aspiring nurses like Charity. Nelson, a 47-year-old from Kanyenga, struggled with HIV and TB due to living far away from health facilities. After turning to the GAIA Mobile Health Clinic, he received antiretroviral and TB medications locally. Today, Nelson is healthy, his viral load is low, and he is grateful to be back working in his garden. Your generosity provides life-saving care for thousands of Malawians like Nelson. GAIA's Executive Director Todd Schafer and US Board Chair Tim Mohan spent last week visiting our programs in Malawi. Here's a message from Todd about one of their days in Mangochi:

"Board Chair Tim Mohan and I had a great day at the Michael Gottlieb Mobile Health Clinic today in Mangochi. We were pleased to see the strong partnership with the District Health Office in evidence, with two district clinical staff assigned to the clinic and plenty of donated medicines on hand. I always ask the assembled clients how far they have come and was heartened that almost all had walked less than 30 minutes...and then learned that in the absence of the mobile clinic the walk would have been 2 hours or more! It's always good to be in the presence of GAIA's committed staff and seeing the clinics function as designed!"

GAIA is excited to share that our Mobile Health Clinics have hit 3 million client visits! This is a significant milestone for the program and its reach; check out our full blog post linked in our bio highlighting the accomplishments of our MHC program, and celebrating this achievement.

None of this would be possible without the iconic actress Elizabeth Taylor's vision and commitment through her foundation The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation to launch the first mobile health clinic in 2008, and the continued support of our generous donors, partner organizations, and everyone in our GAIA U.S. and Malawi communities. Thank you for your support of GAIA over the years.
