Life is Living is an intergenerational celebration of life. What better way to do that than create a zone for the children to have fun, learn, play, activate and inspire. The Kids Zone features live performances by and for youth, live art by and for youth, and so much fun. We have a fundraising campaign to support the Kids Zone on the Life is LIving page. Please make a contribution and bring your children and those you know to Defremery Park on October 12. Come early cause we get the kids active at 10am. lifeisliving.org

Youth Speaks inc. facilitates the Life is Living Festival in Oakland at Defremery Park for all generations of Oaklanders. This is the only Youth Speaks event where our focus is on families, community partners and broad collaborations to create safe spaces for youth to speak year round. We know the primary text for any community is the lives of its people. We celebrate Life and the youth of Oakland California, once again on October 12 at Lil Bobby Hutton Park.

Investing in STEM education at two-year colleges could fill skills gap, GRCC says 06/11/2013

"Only about 1/3 of young people in the United States are getting a four-year bachelor's degree, We need to provide an alternative path for the two-thirds of people that aren't going that route.."

Investing in STEM education at two-year colleges could fill skills gap, GRCC says Amy Koning knows that jobs in science, technology, engineering and math are a major driver of West Michigan's economy.

Don't get distracted by everything that is happening and forget this Saturday April 20th, ... another beautiful day at Defremery Park, come celebrate Life and Service at this Earth Day Event. 8 - 1230 the community will begin to RESTORE Little Bobby Hutton Park and truly honor the spirit of Life is West Oakland. Come one and all and join us in the effort. Bring your old clothes, shoes and other give away items, .... bring plastic bags and gloves, ... bring an open heart, lots of love and time.

Life is Living as a National Youth Speaks campaign kicked off in 2008 at Bobby Hutton aka Defremery Park to call attention to the blight and to highlight the possibility of West Oakland. Our original intent was to restore life to a place that reflects neglect, limited public investment, and environmental decay. For the past 5 years we have held our Festival at Defremery despite the Gopher holes, thrashed fields and dried grass. We have partnered with champions of the West Oakland community and Oakland at large to make this happen. Now in 2013 Council Member Lynette McElhaney has made the restoration of Defremery Park her Year One Priority. We are very happy to know that our years of work and investment in this story are beginning to pay off. We can all participate in this process that will make Life is Living 2013 the best and most beautiful ever with a restored park that honors our community investment. WE NEED YOUR HELP beginning on next Saturday on April 20th. Please RSVP at http://bit.ly/XTBQIx
