The Long Island Chapter of the New York State Intergenerational Network is pleased to announce that it has received an Allstate Foundation Helping Hands grant to support our English as a Second Language and citizenship preparation program, which provides services in Suffolk and Nassau Counties. Congratulations to Maria Studer, LI-NYSIgN Board Member and program coordinator, for organizing the program. Kevin Brabazon, President of NYSIgN, has announced that NYSIgN will match the Allstate grant which will be used for materials to support our volunteers. The volunteers are Dowling students as well as members of the community. Dr. Susanne Bleiberg Seperson is the Chair of the Long Island chapter of NYSIgN as well as the Sociology Department at Dowling College. Training sessions and board meetings are held at the College. Dr. Susan Carter, Associate Professor of Special Education at Dowling College had a new book published by Rowman and Littlefield entitled "The Hostile Environment: Students who Bully in School." In her book she examines the latest psychological and educational research that reveals how school interventions lack intensity and a strong behavioral focus. She offers a bold and new interdisciplinary model to integrate community services, union contracts and school and parent collaboration to build a safe environment for all children.
ROCKVILLE, MD (March 1) –American Kidney Fund National Board of Trustees Member Frank Mitchell Corso, Jr., recently received the Economic Development Award from the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration Committee of Nassau County, New York, in recognition of his strong commitment to developing businesses in minority communities in Nassau County and throughout the United States.
Corso is a nationally recognized expert and leader in economic and business development, business financing and franchising. He is CEO of Frank Mitchell Corso, Jr. and Associates, Inc., a business management and finance consulting firm with offices in New York and California. His firm provides a myriad of business services to business throughout the United States, including financing guidance, business development, CFO services, marketing and franchising development.
“Frank’s resume of business development is exceptional and he is very deserving of this outstanding recognition,” said LaVarne A. Burton, President and CEO of the American Kidney Fund, a national nonprofit organization that is the nation’s leading source of direct, treatment-related financial assistance to dialysis patients. “We are privileged to have him serve on our Board of Trustees.”
Corso has received numerous awards over the years. On several occasions, he has been the recipient of the Small Business Advisor of The Year award from the United States Small Business Administration’s Small Business Development Center. He has also received the Appreciation Award of The Federal Laboratory Consortium for Technology Transfer, which honors a person who has made a significant contribution to the Federal Laboratory Consortium program. He is listed in 2009-2010 editions of Marquis Who’s Who in America, Marquis Who’s Who in Finance and Business and Marquis Who’s Who in The World for 2010.
Corso has been the Financial Editor of Technology Business Magazine for several years and is a contributing writer for several business publications. He is also an author; host of “Dollars and Sense,” a business talk show on local cable television; and a national speaker on business. In addition to serving on the Board of Trustees for the American Kidney Fund and chairing several different committees, Corso serves on several other boards, including Friends of The World Food Program and Long Island Transportation Management. He also serves on several business advisory boards.
