Weave a Scarf Weekend! Has it ever crossed your mind that you’d like to learn how to weave? Well, here’s a good opportunity to do just that. I’m teaching a weekend workshop on Saturday, January 20 and Sunday January 21 from 9 am to 4 pm each day. You don’t have to have any prior experience weaving, and the only thing you need to bring is your interest in learning something new. When you arrive, you’ll be assigned a loom that is already set up to weave. You’ll also get some weaving tools to use, the yarn or thread that you will use for the sample and more yarn to pick from to make your scarf. You’ll also get a notebook with information about the loom and it’s parts, and information about each of the projects that you will work on during the workshop. By the end of the day on Sunday, you will have woven some samples, learned how to set up the loom to weave your scarf and you will have finished that scarf. that you’ll have to use during the workshop. The workshop will be held at the Oak Ridge Art Center on Badger Rd. If you are interested, please contact the Art Center at 865-482-1441. If you have questions about the workshop, email Andy Lyle at [email protected]

I will begin teaching a 6 session class on "A History of Loom Weaving" will be held on Mondays, from 9:30 am until 10:40 am starting on Sept. 18 for 6 weeks. We will cover a period of time each week, starting with 5000 years before Jesus was born! And, ending with modern day with automated industrial looms and modern looms that can weave extremely complicated patterns. And to add some fun to the lessons, we'll each use a metal potholder loom to experience what it was like to weave in each if the different time periods. Sound like fun? Then sign up for the class. Everyone will end the class having woven something to take home. Here is a link to the ORICL Catalog.

Starting on Sept. 18, I will teach a 1 hour class for 6 weeks on the History of Loom Weaving through the Oak Ridge Institute of Continuing Learning (ORICL) at Roane State. We will start with 5000 years before Jesus Christ was born. That‘s the oldest record that has been found of a loom. Each week we’ll discuss what weaving would have been like and then we’ll try to experience just that using a small square peg loom to weave in a way similar to each time period. I’m still trying to figure out how we’ll experience some of the more current styles of looms! Contact the people at ORICL to sigh up for this class and join us in the fun. Sign up online at oricl@roanstate@eduor call 865-481-8222. Office hrs: Mon - Fri 9 am to noon

I started teaching some weaving classes here in Oak Ridge, TN a couple of years ago that were doing well until Covid hit. Now that people are getting the vaccine, classes are starting back up again. So, I'm going to start talking about them here on this page.

I now have 2 different classes, each with a Beginner and Advanced section: The first class is Potholder Loom Weaving (in which we start out weaving looper potholders and move on to weaving other pieces using the same square loom). The Basic class is offered during the first 4 weeks of a semester and the Advanced class is offered during the second 4 weeks.
My new class is Rigid Heddle Loom Weaving. this class is a full semester long. Beginners and Advanced students will be the same class. the first 4 weeks of the semester will be focused more on basic skills and finetuning those basic skills. The last 4 weeks will be aimed at producing a finished project using skills learned in the 1st half.

These classes are taught in-person, not online.

If you live nearby and are interested in either of these classes, please contact me here or at [email protected].

My classes are offered through the Oak Ridge Institute for Continuing Learning (ORICL) and the Oak Ridge Art Center. Enrollment for the Summer session is currently open and the Fall catalogue will be coming out soon. The catalogue can be found at http://www.roanestate.edu/oricl.

Hi, this is Andy. Thank you for looking at my shop page. I am a Retired Human Resource professional with a number of interests that now occupy more of my time. I have sold my handwaving products and supplies at area shows and on Etsy since 2009. I became a member of the Foothills Crafts Guild in 2012.

I am ready now to see if I can increase my sales by also offering items on this, my Sales related page. You will see anything from fresh new wovens, to weaving and sewing supplies.

And since my husband, Gary, loves to roam through estate and yard sales looking for that cool piece that somebody is looking for- whether they know it yet or not. You'll also see some of the interesting items that attract his eye.

If you're seeking something in particular that looks similar to some idem that is listed here as for sale, reach out to me. We may have it.

We'll be vendors again at the Sevierville, TN Boomin BBQ and Bluegrass Festifal on May 19 & 20, 2017. This is a terrific music festival and Barbeque competition. Plus, the let people like Gary and me come to sell our wares. We'll have lots of colors of cotton loopers, the little red metal potholder loom, and my handwoven rugs, bags, scarves and shawls. If you're looking for something to do that weekend, make the drive to the square around the Sevier County Courthouse. That's where all of the action will be. We had a terrific time there in 2015. Hope to do just as well this year.
