Wanting to refresh your flower bed at home? Now's the perfect time to do it and here are some tools that could make it easier:

1. Gardening gloves - buying a good pair of gardening gloves can make your life a lot easier when it comes to yard work. Having some decent gloves prevents you from getting blisters and gives you a better grip on your tools.
2. A tiller and/or hand cultivator - while a tiller can help alleviate or prevent backaches from hunching over, sometimes it's not in the budget so a hand cultivator is more feasible. Either way, we recommend you find a product made with aluminum, they tend to to be more durable than typical wood-handled tools and won't bend like fiberglass. There are also a lot of tools out there nowadays with ergonomic handles which can be great if you have a large amount of work to do in your flower bed or if you have trouble with pain in your joints.
3. Pruning shears - pruning your plants can not only help you shape them but can keep your plants healthy. Using pruning shears instead of typical scissors is ideal because with the shears you just have to squeeze the handle to cut and then it automatically re-opens whereas scissors require a lot more force, this can tire your hand out quicker. Additionally, pruning shears can be used on tough woody stems that scissors might not be able to cut through very easily.
4. A shovel - either a triangular or flat-head, depending on what you need done. A triangular shovel is great for digging holes to place plants in, digging up rocks, turning soil, etc. A flat-head shovel is great for edging your flower bed, scooping large amounts of mulch or soil, cutting sod, etc. If you can only afford one or the other, a triangular shovel would be the more diverse tool to buy, but it's great to have both types of shovels if you can.

In addition to these, there are lots of other necessary and/or helpful tools for flower bed work such as a bucket, hose, rake, trowel, etc. For user-friendly tools with ergonomic designs, we recommend you take a look at Fiskars line of gardening products. If you already have everything you need, we hope you're able to get out this week/weekend and get some yardwork done before all of the rain next week. Happy planting!

We're supposed to get a lot of rainfall here in the St. Louis area over the next week or so. Now's the time to keep a close eye on your lawn, if you notice a lot of standing water that doesn't seem to be draining properly it could lead to a variety of issues such as:
- an increase in insect breeding, specifically mosquitos
- destroying plants in your yard by causing them to become over-watered
- preventing grass from growing and causing large muddy patches that lead to dirt patches in the summer
- damage to the foundation of your home from water pooling around it, leading to very expensive repairs

Here are some helpful tips from Troy-Bilt to save your lawn if it seems to be drowning: https://www.troybilt.com/en_US/knowledge-tb-revive-waterlogged-lawn.html

With greener grass and budding trees, there's no doubt Spring is definitely here in the St. Louis area. Unfortunately, with Spring comes lots of rain which apparently we'll be seeing more of tomorrow. This is just a quick reminder to make sure your lawn mower and other outdoor power equipment is stored properly. You should protect your outdoor power equipment year-round from a variety of weather but especially rain, it can cause rust and corrosion, ruin your spark plugs, and damage your engine. Ideally you should store your equipment indoors, possibly in your garage or a storage shed, but if that's not possible your second option should be storing them under a carport or any covered area if you have one. If neither of those are an option for you, just make sure your equipment is covered. You can purchase a lawn mower cover or even a tarp to cover all of your equipment. We know your landscaping equipment is an investment and we want to make sure you keep it protected.

(P.S. remember to let your lawn completely dry before pulling out that mower this week)

If you haven't checked out Stinger's line of aerators and seeders yet, you're missing out!

The SMARTSEEDER offers automatic, digitally controlled overseeding. Designed specifically for the QUAD-AER 3000. It doesn't change the footprint or weight distribution of the aerator. The SMARTSEEDER spreads a perfect 30” width of the seed. Automatic mode allows for the seed flow only when the tines are in the ground. LCD display and push-button seed flow adjust make this the ultimate overseeding machine.

Good morning and happy Monday! Hopefully you all had a wonderful weekend. If you happened to get your landscaping equipment out this weekend and realized you need to do some maintenance, make sure you use this week as an opportunity to order replacement parts, air filters, fuel, trimmer line, etc.

Have a great week and happy mowing!

Happy Friday! Hopefully you're all able to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather we should have this weekend, and maybe get some yard work done too.

If you haven't mowed yet this year, take this weekend as an opportunity to pull your lawn mower and other outdoor power equipment out and do some maintenance so it's all prepped and ready to go when you need to use it.

Happy Hump Day! It seems only right that today we talk about the challenges of mowing a yard with a hump. If your lawn has a hill/incline, it's important to read your mower's user manual to ensure you remain safe. However, here are a few extra tips:

- If you're using a walk-behind mower it's easiest to mow the hill horizontally (side-to-side) so you don't have to use as much force to push the mower up a steep incline or keep your machine from running away from you downhill
- If you're on a riding/zero-turn mower it's safest to mow the hill vertically (up-and-down) to avoid the mower sliding or toppling over sideways, potentially injuring yourself and damaging your equipment
- While you really shouldn't mow wet grass anyway, you especially want to avoid this on a slope. The wet grass can cause your mower to slip and potentially roll over down a hill. Always make sure your lawn is completely dry before mowing

Most importantly, always use caution when you have to mow on an incline. Stay safe and happy mowing!

Here in the St. Louis area we have rain in the forecast this week. Even though rain might not be your favorite weather, it's necessary for a healthy lawn. Here are a few helpful tips for lawn care during rainy season:
- Be sure not to seed or fertilize your lawn right before a heavy rainfall as it can wash all of that hard work away, however it's actually good to fertilize your lawn before a light rain so just make sure you're keeping an eye on that forecast
- Avoid mowing wet grass, it can do more harm that good. It's worth it to wait a day or two for your lawn to completely dry
- Keep an eye on how well your lawn is draining, if you have large amounts of water standing in certain areas it might be time to consider adding an improved drainage system to your yard
- Avoid walking on wet grass, it can cause the blades of grass to pull and brake off from their roots
