We have received numerous calls regarding the smell of smoke in the Northport area and investigated accordingly. As always, if you see smoke or fire actively burning, call 911. But we are aware of the odor of smoke in the area and will be monitoring.

Toys for Tots toy drive has started. There will be a toy drop box located at Northport Fire Department headquarters, near the main entrance, until the middle of December. Please help Marine Corps League detachment 792 of Huntington collect toys for children this holiday season.

Last night at approximately 8:40pm the Northport Fire Dept. was activated for a brush fire on the corner of Fresh Pond Road and Breeze Hill Road. Upon arrival Chief Smalling found a large area of brush burning up the hill encroaching on the residence on Breeze Hill Road. With in a few minutes Engine 293 had most of the fire knocked down and eliminated the threat to the residence. Engine 294 estiblished a water source and supplied Engine 293. East Northport Fire Dept’s brush truck was requested to the scene to assist with extinguishment. Good job by all involved.

Today’s Annual Open House! All were welcomed to our Firehouse on Main St to learn about fire safety and prevention, as well as emergency medical safety tips. Attendees were able to see all the various fire trucks, ambulance, and firefighting/rescue equipment. We featured a stop drop & roll station, and a smoke house, in which children learned to stay low to the ground in a smoke condition, and to get out and stay out! We also demonstrated a live burn, in which all who attended got to see the Northport Firefighters arrive “on scene” in our new pumper, 2-9-4, and extinguish the fire. The kids then got to try out spraying the firehose. Fun was had by all and we hope to see you next year!

Members of the Northport Fire Department paid a visit to Norwood Avenue Elementary earlier this week, and brought along Engine 2-9-8 and Ambulance 2-9-15. Students were taught the importance of fire safety as well as tips in the event of a fire. They were also able to check out and see the inside of the trucks, and various firefighting tools and lifesaving equipment.
