It is with deep sadness the Chiefs Office of the Northport Fire Department announce the passing of Robert (Bobby) Cross.
Memorial Visitation Tuesday 2-5 PM and 7-9 PM. at Nolan’s funeral home. Northport Fire Department service Tuesday Evening at 8 PM.

Assistant Chief Cross and members of the Northport Fire Department truck committee spend the last 2 days at Pierce Manufacturing in Appleton Wisconsin doing the final inspection on Engine 4. They are very happy with the engine and hope to have it in service protecting the Northport community very soon!

This afternoon members responded to a motor vehicle accident with people trapped on route 25a just west of Woodbine Ave. Rescue 2910 and Engine 296 used the Hurst Tools (Jaws of Life) to remove the patient from the vehicle. Northport Rescue Squad members provided emergency medical care and transported to a local hospital. All operations were under the command of Chief of Department, Tom Smalling.

Northport Tower Ladder 297 and Commack Engine 21112 are currently covering all alarms for the Syosset Fire Department while they attend a fundraiser for one of their members.

It is with extreme pride we congratulate Bill Scherer on being elected as the 2nd Assistant Chief of the Northport Fire Department. Bill is the most recent Captain of Hook & Ladder Co. 1. Bill has followed in his father’s footsteps. Bill’s proud father Wilbur Scherer Jr. was Chief of the Northport Fire Department from 1998-2000. We can also be sure that Bill’s grandfather Wilbur Scherer Sr. is looking down smiling at Bill’s accomplishments. Bill’s professionalism and experience will be a great asset to the department and the community. Best of luck Chief. We are looking forward to working with you!

Tower Ladder 297 and Tower Ladder 274 working together once again. Today was a much more important and honorable task, as we give a final salute and proper send off to

We mourn with the NYPD, family and friends of Officer Diller. May he rest in peace.

Tower Ladder 297 responded with High Water Rescue 2923 to a residence on Ocean Ave this afternoon. The heavy rain caused a flooding condition by the basement door, causing water to enter the residence. Members used pumps to remove the water from the low lying area, which stopped the water from entering the basement. Good work by all involved. Operations were under the command of Assistant Chief Smalling.

Tower Ladder 297 was assigned the FAST/ RIT Truck this afternoon at a working residential structure fire on Renwick Ave in Centerport. The crew was on the road in under a minute from the time of activation! Shorty after being on scene the incident commander put them to work! Great turn out and good job by all involved!

Congratulations to these members of Hook & Ladder Co.1 and Engine Co.1 for being recognized this morning at the Suffolk County REMSCO LIFESAVERS AWARDS Ceremony at Centereach F.D.
Awarded for a successful CPR save back in May on Mothers Day morning.

On Thursday afternoon members assisted the Kings Park Fire Department at a working residential structure fire on Laurel Rd in Kings Park. Engine 296 and Support Truck 2914 responded with Chief 32. Good work by all involved.

This morning members of Hook & Ladder Company 1 responded to an overturn auto accident on Eatons Neck Road near Gull Cove. The vehicle had traveled over the guard rail and down in to the ravine approximately 50ft down off the road. Once our ems crews stabilized the patient, members of Tower Ladder 297 and Engine 296 used the Stokes Basket and a 2-1 rope system to bring the patient up the steep incline to the road way. All operations under command of Chief of Department Doug Pyne. Good job by all involved.

This afternoon Tower Ladder 297 was the 1st due truck for a working residential structure fire in the town house/ condos on Lisa Drive in Northport. The search team found the interior stairs and made there way to the fire room in zero visibility and in high heat conditions. Engine 298 stretched a 1 3/4 line through the front door, up the stairs to the fire room and knocked the fire down. Mutual Aid was requested from East Northport Fire Dept , Centerport Fire Dept, Greenlawn Fire Dept, and Eatons Neck Fire Dept. All operations were under the command of Chief of Department Doug Pyne. Great work by all involved.

If you have a hydrant near your home, it is extremely important to clear the snow in front of them. This will help the firefighters locate the hydrant and get water faster. Seconds count in an emergency, and it could save lives!
