Bundled Up Like Edith Storey!
On a chilly day like today, we could all use a hat and coat as stylish as silent film actress Edith Storey’s! 🌟 Born on March 18, 1892, Edith dazzled audiences during the silent film era, becoming a true Hollywood star. 🎥 Later in life, she traded the spotlight for a quieter life right here in Asharoken, where she served as the village clerk. She passed away on October 9, 1967, leaving behind a legacy both on and off the screen.
Next time you’re strolling through Northport, think of Edith and her elegant style that perfectly suits our beautiful town!

🔍 Trivia Tuesday! 🔍
Can you guess what business currently occupies this historic spot?
Originally built in the 1870s, this building once housed a bustling dry goods store, a law office, and even a saloon! Later, Burr’s Pharmacy set up shop on the right side, with a tavern on the left, making it a popular stop for Northport locals.
In 1930, the original wooden building was demolished, and three new brick buildings took its place, transforming this iconic corner. Do you know what business is there now? Drop your guess below and stay tuned to find out! 👇

Our Mission
The mission of the Northport Historical Society is to preserve and promote pride in the heritage of Northport and its surrounding communities. We are entrusted with discovering, collecting and interpreting the historic objects, documents, photographs and other material that will continue to inform our lives and posterity.
We maintain a museum and research library in a landmark building where artifacts associated with the area's history are curated and displayed. We seek to illuminate our legacy through educational programs, exhibits and social activities. We work with others to maintain the character of the Northport area through supporting efforts to preserve historic structures and spaces.
OUR BEGINNINGS
The Northport Historical Society formed around a group of local residents intrigued by the village’s “rich and colorful, but little-known” past. They became increasingly concerned that important elements of the community’s heritage were being lost and that insufficient regard was being given to the impact of those losses. In particular, it was the number of Northport’s older homes falling prey to the “wrecker’s ball” that galvanized Marilyn Campbell and her circle of friends to subsequently found the Northport Historical Society in 1962.
