May God watch over those affected by the fires on the eastern end of Long Island tonight. Please, Lord, keep them safe and preserve lives, homes and businesses. In particular, we lift up our firefighters for your protection, and that your mighty hand would strengthen them and give them wisdom. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen. πŸ™

The season of Lent is a time for Christians to clean up their spiritual lives - removing the obstacles between us, God and others, and reorienting our hearts to be more open to God.

Tomorrow, we begin with ashes...
- a reminder of our own mortality, and that our time on earth is limited
- an opportunity to remember our simple origins and and how blessed we are to be filled with the Spirit of God

Our local United Methodist churches have three opportunities for you to begin this Lenten journey:
- Drive Up in your car at St. Paul's UMC between 11:30-1:30 and receive ashes from our pastor and lay leader
- Attend Ash Wednesday worship at Union UMC (East Northport) at 12:15 OR at Dix Hills UMC at 7:30pm.

ALL ARE WELCOME, regardless of your denomination.

Begin the Lenten Season with the sign of your intent to change! Receive the sign of the cross in ashes upon your forehead from our pastor by driving through the St. Paul's UMC parking lot between 11;30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Ash Wednesday, March 5, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 270 Main St, Northport.

Our North Shore Suffolk Cooperative Parish celebrated that "the joy of the Lord is our strength" (Nehemiah 8:10) with a musical celebration last Sunday! There were songs by some of our children, church members, and pastors. As if that wasn't enough, we had music by Jazz4Jesus, Frank Rendo, and Leap of Faith!

Rev. Dr. King once wrote in a handwritten letter that, "Love is the greatest force in the universe. It is the heartbeat of the moral cosmos. He who loves is a participant in the being of God."

In that spirit, our church will be receiving two special offerings this Sunday:

1. For Human Relations Day - a United Methodist special offering focused on fostering better relationships and supporting community and youth outreach - such as Community Developers, United Methodist Voluntary Services, and Youth Offender Rehabilitation.

2. For the United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR), which will be working to alleviate the suffering of those impacted by the California wildfires

Instructions for how to give can be found at https://stpaulsumcnpt.org/?page_id=2779, or by sending a check to our church office.
