INSTRUMENTALIST of THE YEAR in BEACH MUSIC!!!
Many of you know me for performing with Steve Owens and Summertime. I have been a member of The Castaway, Main Event and The Embers. I am the only musician regularly playing in THREE bands in the Beach Music Scene. (Steve Owens and Summertime, The Holiday Band and Jim Quick and Coastline.) While some bands may be more popular and you may like a certain musician, take these points into account!!! Every band has 50-100 songs they know and regularly play 35-45 songs a night. By playing in just three bands I have to know 135-300 songs. Sure some are the same song but arrangements are different and often so is the key the song is played in. I AM NOT YOUR AVERAGE MUSICIAN!!! The rest of the story is as a full time musician in a part time band, Steve Owens and Summertime, I also play in several other bands including EG Peters Band, Bill Dillard Project, Jimmy Weaver Trio, and filled in with Adrian Watts and Train Wreck, The Rusty Nails along with performing SOLO.
I currently have a song called “Runnin’ Blue” that is on the following charts, Mitch Harb’s, Pat Quinn’s, Eric Bowman’s The Wave, RipTide Radio, and has been in Justin Rouse top 5, Mike Worley’s The Surf, DJ Ray Melton’s, and I am sure to have forgotten a few!

The loss of Charlie Brown is devastating to our Beach Music community. On behalf of “The Surf” staff, we would like to send our condolences to his lovely wife, Sue as well as his loved ones. This kind-hearted gentleman was a living, legendary staple in the music industry. While dedicating his entire life to broadcasting, he still found the time to support every facet of our entertainment family. From attendance to band shows, advice for fellow announcers to a powerful entity in the Carolina Beach Music Awards, his presence has always been a positive dominance. Although he was soft spoken, his opinions were well thought out and valid via inquiry, investigation, and beloved conversations regularly with peers and admirers. With the highest form of professionalism and impeccable presentation for decades amidst his show, “On the Beach”, his informative and entertaining program will be missed on this “Flagship Station” along with a multitude of other mediums. Rest in peace our dear friend. There will never be another… And you will be missed by countless adoring fans and friends. – Jim Quick
