Countertop Cakes

I wanted to take a moment to share an update as life has been a little upside down. Last Friday I lost my mom. To those of you who know me personally and have reached out with prayers, sympathy and condolences-from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

This past week has seemed to fly by and move slowly all at the same time. After much thought and prayer, I have made the decision to put a pause on accepting new order requests through my page for the near future. (Please note: I will still fill all orders I have confirmed for the rest of this year and in 2022.) Taking this pause will allow time to regroup, spend much needed time with family, focus on my full time job and simply take a breath. Unfortunately I cannot offer a time span of how long this pause will be as I simply don't know. I will update here on my page when I am ready to start accepting requests again.

Thank you, as always, for your support and understanding. What was intended to be a little hobby on the side has transformed into a steady side gig and continues to grow. Because of all of you my kitchen always smells sweet and is creation central.

This weekend I had the honor of making desserts for graduates from our local Liberty, City and West high schools. Congrats to Ayana, Jack, Marcus, Ian, Alex and Grahm and best of luck with your future endeavors!

Today is Armed Forces Day. I would like to give a special shout out to my big brother. Two years ago we celebrated his retirement from the United States Army and today he graduates with a degree in Animal Science. So proud of him and looking forward to celebrating with blueberry pie and rolls tomorrow! (He loves God, his family, his country, the gravel roads of rural Iowa we call home.....and anything made with blueberries!😂❤🇺🇸)

A few extra treats being sent to school tomorrow as a thank you to the teachers and staff at Garner Elementary for helping my girls feel some normalcy in a far from normal year. This school year has been one heck of a rollercoaster but both of my littles have flourished this year. I mean, come on....my kindergartener spent a good chunk of the year online and she has been reading on her own for weeks! My oldest is explaining math and science to me in a way that makes me feel I need to take notes. If you are a teacher, whether it be homeroom, specials or support staff-thank you!! In some ways I feel this year has been one where my kids have strived the most, therefore I am 100% convinced you are all super heroes.
(FYI-if you happen to snag one of these chocolate cake pops they go REALLY well with a cup of coffee....😉)

It's currently 87°degrees outside so it seems fitting that a couple cakes this weekend had "melting ice cream cones".

Thank you to all who have reached out with date requests after my post below. As an update, I am now currently booked through June 13 with only a few spots of availability remaining from June 14th through August. If you have any interest in ordering for this summer please reach out soon. No finalized details needed, this would just be to hold a date. As stated below, I will be limiting my orders this summer in order to spend some much needed time with family and friends after a year of distancing. As always-thank you for your kind words, understanding and support!

I have been working to catch up on messages inquiring about ordering and thought I would hop on here with an update for the coming months because before we know it, summer will be here (anyone else beyond ready for summer?!?!🙋‍♀️).

Currently I am booked for orders through June 8. As summer approaches and I reflect back on what a whirlwind this last year+ had been, I have made the decision to take a limited amount of orders from June through September in order to spend more time with my family, enjoy some down time and sleep more than 3 hours in a night. 😜 If you have a date this summer where you are interested in an order, please message me soon with your request.

Practicing social distancing by staying home and baking!

There truly is always something to be thankful for. Baking and decorating is my therapy-and has been needed more this year than any other year! Thank you to everyone who has let me create a sweet treat during this trying year. Today we may be holding smaller gatherings than in years past but it has lead me to reflect on the largest blessings in my life. I hope it does the same for you. I wish you all a blessed Thanksgiving and prayers of safety and good health.

Today, Facebook brought to my attention Countertop Cakes officially started 5 years ago. What started as a hobby quickly grew thanks to the amazing family, friends and clients who were so kind to share my name. Last fall I changed full time jobs (unexpected, but such a blessing as I am finding more and more every day) and I started 2020 thinking this is going to be an awesome year. Then COVID came and it quickly became apparent that 2020 was not going to be quite the level of awesome I was hoping for. Thankfully, my new job allowed me to keep my kids home and work remotely when needed all while keeping up with cake orders. (To those who ordered over the summer months – thank you! Baking and decorating orders is what helped keep me sane.) As we entered August and with the talk of how school was going to start, I knew I would not be able to operate as I had in the spring when school finished at home. This fall my children will be starting the school year completely online. To make sure they receive the help (and patience) needed while starting Kindergarten and 3rd grade from home, I have made the decision to lower the number of orders I allow myself to take on every week. I struggled with this, but in the end it was the only option.
So, while I may be quiet on my Countertop Cakes page, please know I am still baking, just scaling it back a bit until we get through this pandemic. For anyone interested in inquiring about an order, I am currently booked through September 20, but am taking orders through the rest of the year
As always, thank you for supporting my hobby that brings me much joy! Continued prayers for everyone during this pandemic and blessings of good health and safety.
And to all the parents/guardians/caregivers, kids, teachers and support staff heading into this new school year – remember to tell yourself every day that you are awesome. You are truly awesome.

Weeks ago it became apparent that Easter would be celebrated differently than normal. Instead of having friends and family over, I hope your family, like mine, will continue to practice social distancing. Good news is, there is no need to social distance from desserts. 😉 If you need a small dessert or treat to gift from the "Easter Bunny", I have a few things available for pick up tomorrow, Friday, between 7am and 2pm. If you are interested, please send a message with you request.

*Please note....during this time of pandemic I am not inviting customers to pick up from my front door. Please call/text when you arrive and I will bring your order to your car. If you pay with cash, please have exact change as I will not be able to make change to keep money handling to a minimum. Thank you!

We had to change our spring break plans to staying home. My coworkers are taking this opportunity to color "Thinking of You" cards to send by mail to unsuspecting recipients. Great activity to keep them busy while I work on reaching out to my scheduled orders!

Greetings all! Originally this week my family and I were suppose to be enjoying day trips here and there for spring break. Plans changed. Instead we have been practicing social distancing and leaving our home only when absolutely necessary (by we, I mean only my husband or I as our children are strictly being kept home). We have also been praying for all affected by COVID-19 and using this time to simply being together and ignoring "what we would normally be doing".

I am continuing to offer orders as scheduled. However, to keep my family safe, I am not inviting customers into my home at the time of pick up. Instead, I will ask you to message/text/call when you arrive to pick up and I will deliver your order out to your car.

If you have an order started, I will be reaching out to check in and see if your date has changed or the size needs to be adjusted due to the current circumstances.

Normally I offer Easter cookies ready to pick up. This year will be different with the uncertainty of gatherings being possible. If you are interested in a cookie order for Easter, please message me your request.

My thoughts and prayers are will all of you as we continue to process through this epidemic. I urge you all to practice social distancing, go to stores when only necessary and to be considerate with the quantity of your purchases. For those of you have to venture to work, be safe. For those who are tackling working from home with your kiddos as your coworkers....I'm thinking of you and am right there with ya! Be kind, have faith and wash those hands with soap and water for 30 seconds!
