I was curious, how would artificial intelligence view workplace discrimination? Would it even understand the harsh realities of that concept? Would it invoke any type of outrage or show any emotion in its response? I was recently granted the privilege of being a tester for Google’s upcoming release of its Al BARD generator. I typed in “write me a blog on workplace discrimination” and out popped this well written article that was not only technical and informative, but it was sympathetic and compassionate. It did express outrage and emotion! What was even more impressive is that it was empowering and expressing to to the reader “If you have been the victim of race discrimination, please don’t hesitate to reach out for help” and “Don’t give up. It may take time and effort, but you can fight back against race discrimination.” So what is Race Discrimination in the workplace based on an artificial intelligent viewpoint? Some important information for those who have chosen not to get Covid-19 vaccinated. IF your employer decides to implement a vaccination policy or be fired (which is skyrocketing at the moment, even Walmart, Disney, Google, ESPN, etc. have jumped on board with such a policy), be forewarned that it is highly probable that you WILL BE DENIED unemployment compensation benefits because unemployment classifies it as a wilful act of violating a company policy. Unless you have a valid medical reason backed-up by medical documentation or a verifiable religious exemption, you should prepare yourself for these social and political negative consequences. Don't shot the messenger, just thought you should know!

Today is Equal Pay Day, which marks how far into the year a woman must work, on average, to earn as much as a man earned the year before. Women make just 82 cents for every dollar paid to men, meaning that women had to work for nearly 15 months to earn what men did in 2020. Crises like the COVID-19 pandemic can bring out the best and worst in people. We have seen many examples of people rising to the occasion, helping others in need, sometimes at great risk or sacrifice to themselves.

Sadly, there have also been reports of mistreatment and harassment of Asian Americans and other people of Asian descent. In the workplace, these actions can result in unlawful discrimination on the basis national origin or race.

Amidst the challenges we are all facing during these uncertain times, the anti-discrimination laws the EEOC enforces are as vital as ever. The EEOC is rising to the challenges before us, continuing our mission of advancing equal employment in the workplace and enforcing our anti-discrimination laws. The EEOC urges employers and employees to be mindful of instances of harassment, intimidation, or discrimination in the workplace and to take action to prevent or correct this behavior. Our collective efforts to create respectful workplaces for all our nation’s workers, even during these trying times, will enable us to emerge from this crisis stronger and more united.

FYI: If you are an exempt employee and have worked for any portion of the week, your employer is required to pay you the full weekly salary if you work for any portion of the week. Also, it is not permissible for the employer to make any deduction for the time that the exempt employee is absent from work from the employee’s accrued Paid Time Off (“PTO”) benefits, because Conn. State Agencies Regs. § 31-60-14(b)(2)(A) does not permit a deduction “of any kind” when a lack of work is occasioned by the operating requirements of the employer.

Recently I had a young female come to my office for assistance. She had been the victim of severe sexual harassment. It was a tough situation because she was an employee at a local casino and it was a tribal elder who was the perpetrator. This was compounded by the fact that tribal law over rules state and federal protections. Pretty much the response from the Casino was...actually there wasn't much of a response at all. That was not good enough for me. I was not giving up on this young girl and I refused to accept that there was no avenues available to protect her from such abuse. After a few hours of wracking my brain and researching various potential laws, it hit me. OSHA protects employees from unsafe working conditions. OSHA is one of the few laws that actually overrules tribal law. OSHA has stepped in and finally after many agonizing months, this young girls is getting the justice she deserves! No amount of money can ever replace the feeling I have inside of me right this very moment, for knowing I helped change a person's life for the better. I love my job and am proud to be the owner of Employee Rights.

Having worked with victims of sexual harassment for over 30 years. I feel qualified to say to those who are attacking Dr. Ford:

May you never have to experience the pain, humiliation, depression, fear, nightmares and anxiety that is left inside of a victim. May you never be violated to the point that you hide in despair. May you never have to be as brave and courageous as Dr. Ford. May you never have to speak up and speak out and become a victim of society. To those victims who have spoken out. To those victims who remain silent wrapped in worry, doubt and fear. I stand by you. I don't judge you. I hear you. I am here for you. I believe you. You are not alone. I embrace you.
