Truck drivers have one of the most demanding and vital jobs in America. This job can become very dangerous, depending on the weather and road conditions. Here are some tips to staying safe while driving in hurricane season.

1. Perform an inspection before leaving the loading dock. Safety always starts with a pre-trip inspection.

2. Pay attention to the road conditions. Check the DOT frequently for route changes due to flooding.

3. Slow down and take breaks. Even with regulated driving hours, you may need more frequent breaks while driving in storms. Being well rested will help you stay alert to weather and road conditions.

4. Keep an emergency kit in your truck. Stock up on extra snacks, drinks, and paper maps of the areas you will be driving through in case you lose signal during the storm.
