Story time:

Eight years ago, two college students started a moving company to make some extra cash. Charleston, S.C. (June 19, 2020)––Cougar Moving Company is actively committed to implementing the proper precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

As of June 18, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) announced 987 new confirmed cases putting the state total at 21,533. We are aware that these are unprecedented times, which is why we are following the applicable CDC and DHEC guidelines.

Here are some things we are doing to keep you and our employees safe:

Regularly checking CDC and DHEC websites for up to date safety measures.

Encouraging employees and customers to stay home/isolate if they are feeling or have recently felt sick.

Offering FREE virtual in-home inspections.

Cougar moving trucks are equipped with PPE (personal protective equipment) and disinfecting supplies. (Trucks and materials are disinfected before and after use.)
Practicing social distancing on the job (where possible) and in the office.

MOVING DURING THE HOLIDAYS COULD GIVE YOUR FAMILY SOME EXTRA TIME TO PACK

If you are taking time off of work or school for the holidays, this could be the ideal time to move. You will have a bit of free time to pack and organize your belongings instead of having to stay up late after you get home from a long day. If you have kids they can also contribute and take on responsibility during the move by packing up their own rooms during their break from school.

Moving Tip # 52: LABEL BOXES WISELY - If you're packing everything yourself (as opposed to leaving it to the movers), be sure to label your boxes in mover speak! For example, label every moving box with the room in your new home that the box belongs in. Also, label which boxes contain fragile items by writing "FRAGILE" clearly on all sides of the box, and write "LOAD LAST" on boxes that you'll need immediately. Your movers will thank you!

Moving Tip # 23: PICK THE RIGHT MOVING DAY - Hire your movers at least a month out so you can plan accordingly. If you have a flexible schedule, play around with potential moving dates and try to find the cheapest time of month to make an appointment.

Moving Tip # 37.RESEARCH PROFESSIONAL MOVING COMPANIES - Research is never fun. Yelp and Google will overwhelm you with the sheer volume of choices for household moving companies to hire, but don’t give in to the pressure and pick the first four-star rating you see. A moving company can often make or break your entire moving experience, so it’s important to get it right. The more effort you put into finding a reputable company with excellent customer service ahead of time, the less hassle you’ll have on moving day.

Moving Tip #29: USE SMALL BOXES FOR HEAVY ITEMS - It sounds obvious, but if you’ve ever known the struggle that is carrying a large cardboard box stuffed full of college textbooks across a parking lot, then you also know this advice cannot be overstated.

MOVING TIP # 53: PACK A “FIRST NIGHT” BOX - This box, included in your "load last" boxes, will contain things that you'll need to make your first night at your new home easy and comfortable. You'll need things like cleaning supplies, a new shower curtain, pillows/blankets/bedsheets/towels, toothbrushes, toilet paper, and a first aid kit, just in case!
