Do y’all have “All the Stars and Teeth”? Goodreads keeps telling me I’ll love it but I keep forgetting to look when I get mesmerized by other goodies 🤗
Are you doing anything for cyber Monday? Would love to support the store from VA.
Thank you for hosting the Lowcountry Murderinos (and others!) at the SSDGM book release last night! Food from Basil, wine and beer, hometowns, and murder trivia WITH handmade prizes?! You ladies rocked this event.
Eeeeek!
You guys have LONG LIVE THE TRIBE OF FATHERLESS GIRLS by T Kira Madden?
Can't wait to meet all of you!
Hannah Casey have you been here? Where Orange Spot used to be.
Is there a summer reading program for kids this year?
Loved meeting Julia and Olivia today at Two Blokes ... we will see you AGAIN soon!
Would you be interested in accepting pre-owned books in good condition? If so, please message me. I am looking to give them away but don't want to give them to someone who will just throw them away. Some are hard back and some are paperback.
She was up all night reading. Thanks for the suggestion Itinerant Literate. She is ready for another Dory book. We will be back!

Happy Thanksgiving week, folks! This week, I’ve been diving into Laura Sebastian’s foray into adult fantasy, Half Sick of Shadows.

Just when you think you’ve seen the Arthur legend from every angle! Half Sick is told from the perspective of Elaine of Shalott, a seer and friend of Guinevere, Morgana, Arthur, and Lancelot. Every page is laced with magic and foreboding, and I love it!

Have you read it? What are your thoughts? Let us know what you’re holiday reading is in the comments!

November is sailing by and new books are born each week that we just can’t wait to show you. These are a few that caught my eye tonight as we set out new stock, wistfully thinking about the book parents who will be giving these books their forever home….

Notably, this GORGEOUS cookbook, the New Native Table, the Comic Book of Space Aliens, Death and Co (cocktails), The Book of Obscure Sorrows, The Untamed Journal, Instant Magic Oracle, and some great new fiction to add to your TBR list!

*my face when I hear people haven’t heard of Alix E. Harrow’s new book*

Hi, all! Christen, AKA Nugget’s mom entering the chat tonight for my pick of the week. I read this in a fever dream of an afternoon and have honestly been chasing that fantastic high ever since. It’s just the perfect dose of escapism, ya know? The kind that makes you chuckle but also makes you think. Ok, ok, I should probably tell you what it’s about! It’s about fairy tales, but it’s also about breaking down the patriarchy, and it’s also got a love story that is UTTERLY ADORABLE thrown in for good measure. The main character loves fairytales so much she got her masters in them, and on her birthday touches a spindle as a drunken joke and then literally finds herself in the middle of Sleeping Beauty—the sleeping beauty she knows, mind you, but not the only sleeping beauty to be found in this book.

It’s truly so fun and I hope you’ll pick it up, and then discover a whole WORLD of Alix E. Harrow goodness to unlock!

Join us for an upcoming workshop and book event on November 18 with Stephanie Haynes, author of College Is Not Mandatory! Meet Stephanie (also an education coach and consultant) and learn more about her mission to equip all high school students with the tools needed to build a successful future for themselves on their own terms, and hear her message about why it is so important to explore all the options available after high school. There will also be opportunities to win free coaching sessions!

College Is Not Mandatory will give you three things:
-An understanding of how our culture came to put such an emphasis on sending every student to college even if it's not the best fit.
-Parent- AND teen-focused insight into the benefits and drawbacks of the five major pathways available to high school students after graduation: community colleges, trade schools and apprentice programs, the military, gap seasons, and four-year colleges (including collegiate athletics).
-Healthy strategies and specific open-ended questions to use in conversations with parents and teenagers about their futures.
Let's talk about all of the above and more.

Grab a complimentary beverage, settle in, and join the party! We hope to see you there. This event is free to attend.

Our Story

A love letter to our customers on the eve of our storefront grand opening on July 21, 2018.

“Books are uniquely portable magic.” - Stephen King

For the past two weeks, we have been spending an unseemly number of hours at 4824 Chateau Ave. to turn it into a bookstore. We wanted to stop for just a moment to reflect on this huge turning point in our business and thank the people who got us here.

In many ways, Stephen King’s quote, which you may have seen on many a sign around the bookmobile, is not only a nod to our name and mission statement but encapsulates why both Julia and I fell in love with books in the first place. Books have always been at the center of our lives like ever-present and shining bits of the universe we could hold.
