Improving fuel efficiency can save massive money on gas. Here are some tips to consider when you are on the road.
1. MANAGE CRUISE RPM
Managing the speed of your engine is also essential in maximizing your fuel efficiency. Find the “sweet spot,” the most efficient RPM to run your engine. 1250 - 1350 RPM tends to be a good “sweet spot.”
2. USE THE LOWEST COST STATIONS
Many trucking-specific GPS systems will plan your route for you to stop at the less-expensive fuel stations along the way.
3. MONITOR TIRE PRESSURE
Underinflated tires decrease your fuel economy. For every 1 PSI drop in pressure, your fuel mileage can be reduced by 0.3%.
4. MINIMIZE IDLING
Only idle your truck when necessary. One hour of idling burns about a gallon of fuel.
5. DON’T OVERFILL THE TANK
If you fill your tank, the expanded fuel can cause the tank to overflow and waste fuel.
6. BE MODERATE WITH BRAKING
Every time you slow down from braking, it takes more fuel to get back up to speed. Leaving more distance between you and the vehicle you are following can reduce braking.
7. STAY IN HIGHER GEAR
Driving in the highest gear possible is an excellent way to help maximize fuel efficiency. Traveling at faster rates in low gears can consume 45% more fuel than is needed.
8. CHECK VEHICLE ALIGNMENT
Another essential factor to getting the best possible fuel efficiency is to make sure your tires are pointed straight down the road. A tire that is even ¼ degree from perfectly straight will try to travel 10-15 feet sideways every mile.
9. USE CRUISE CONTROL
When you can, use cruise control. Cruise control can limit unnecessary acceleration and deceleration and save up to 6% in fuel consumption on the road.
10. MINIMIZE AIR CONDITIONING
Every time you use your A/C, you increase fuel consumption by 0.2-0.4 miles per gallon. Sometimes this can be unavoidable, but when you can, just crack the window!

Truck driving job requires long work hours, high concentration levels, and skills. Drivers need to be extra cautious while on the road. We would like to share some tips from FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration)
1. Check Your Blind Spots
Check mirrors every 8-10 seconds to be aware of vehicles entering your blind spots. Additionally, scan ahead on the road about 15 seconds (equating to a quarter mile on interstates, or one to two blocks in cities) for traffic issues, work zones, and other dangers.
2. Be Aware of Long Stopping Distances
Driving too fast for weather or road conditions or failing to slow down for curves or ramps create risks for rollovers, as well as crashes. Be aware of long stopping distances and make careful wide turns.
3. Drive at a Safe Speed
Large vehicles accelerate slower uphill and may gain speed quickly downhill. Drive at a safe speed, be aware of your surroundings, and never drive above the speed limit.
4. Stay Focused and Avoid Distracted Driving
Get enough rest; don’t drive when you’re fatigued, feeling ill, or using medications (including over-the-counter medicine) that make you drowsy or dizzy.
It is illegal for a CMV driver to text while driving, and mobile phones must be hands-free and dialed using no more than one button. Eating, drinking, interacting with a navigational device, reading maps, or any other activity that takes the focus off the road can also be distracting.
5. Maintain Your Vehicle
Check that your load is well-balanced and secure, as a shifting load can cause a rollover or loss of control. Loose materials can create road hazards.
6. Practice Work Zone Safety
Slow down, maintain extra following space, and be prepared to stop. Obey all work zone signs and signals. Scan ahead for changing traffic patterns, and be alert to vehicles entering your blind spots. Keep a sharp eye out for road workers and flag crews.
