Ronny Hustvedt and his dog Bailey the yellow lab had a fun outing chasing upland birds. Be sure to bring along plenty of water for your canine hunting buddy. This hunt ended earlier than planned because it was just too hot. Bailey drank all her water early and was very happy (and cooler) after a dip in the lake. She still had a great time learning how to chase birds in the woods.

Ronny and I are ready to do the Minnesota Fishing Challenge next weekend (May 30) which is virtual this year. We will be on a body of water we know and love, but YOU can be part of it as well. The snowpack is thick! Knee high in regular boots and exhausting to walk through. Float on top with snowshoes, either traditional like these or the new styles (both work). The woods are beautiful and sooo quiet.

The 2019-2020 ice fishing season is underway across the ice belt and WriteOutdoors.com visited a small central Wisconsin lake to catch a mixed bag of fish in late December. Tip-ups for pike and bass, rod and reel for panfish, and lots of kids learning all about ice fishing is what this adventure brought us.
