Hard work pays off 💪. Way to go PA Stars Fastpitch Meyer 14U. Thank you for your continued support of Keystone Fastpitch and good luck with the rest of your season! 🥎
The Pa Stars Fastpitch 14u were in Quakertown this Memorial Day weekend for the 16 team Memorial Day Mayhem Tournament and the girls brought home the rings Monday after bracket play concluded.
After a lackluster 3-3 showing through pool play the ladies decided to turn it up when bracket play started going 3-0 and collecting their first championship of the season in a complete team effort getting contributions from every player on the active roster (we do have one injury).
Monday opened up bright and early with an 8AM scheduled first pitch against NW Explosion and the girls came out hot scoring 2 in the top of the first inning after an Aubrey Meyer single, sac bunt by Aubrey MacWilliams and an RBI single from starting pitcher Sophie Maitland. After Violet Stanek singled, Kelly Shindler knocked in Emma Clark who came in to run for Maitland. The Explosion came back cutting the score in half in the bottom of the frame. The Stars kept rolling in the second inning with back to back hits from Quinn Miracle and Kat Watson, a walk to Sophia Gessner set the stage for Aubrey Meyer who hit a laser to short that skipped into centerfield scoring two runs putting the Stars up 4–1. The Explosion played 2 in the third to cut the lead to 4-3. Aubrey MacWilliams doubled in two runs in the fourth to push the Stars out to a 6-3 lead. The Explosion wouldn’t be denied as they scored 3 times to tie it in the bottom of the 4th. With the final inning coming up in a 6-6 deadlock, the Stars put the game away scoring 3 times to finally pull away. Violet Stanek led off the final frame with a double and Kelly Shindler reached on a sacrifice bunt and a throwing error allowing Emma Clark who was on to run for Stanek to score and Shindler to come all the way around to third. After a Lily Acquarola walk, Kiely Walsh singled in a run and Sophia Gessner closed out the scoring with an RBI single to put the Stars up 9-6 where the score would stay allowing the girls to advance to the semifinals. Sophia Gessner picked up the win in 1.1 innings of relief striking out 2 allowing no hits. Gessner, Kat Watson and Violet Stank picked up 2 hits each while Meyer and MacWilliams both knocked in 2 runs.
Game 2 came up right away and since she was already loose Sophia Gessner figured she’d just stay in the circle and pick up her second win of the morning this time coming in the form of the Langhorne Lightning going 5 innings allowing 2 runs and fanning a pair. Langhorne jumped out quickly scoring 2 in the top of the first but that was all they could muster as the Stars scored 6 times highlighted by a 4 run fourth inning. Gessner led the way from the circle and at the plate going 2 for 2 with 3 RBI. Aubrey MacWilliams knocked in 2 and Kat Watson also picked up an RBI while Lily Acquarola scored twice.
On to the championship where the Stars would not be denied defeating Central Jersey Lightning 9-2. Sophie Maitland was dazzling in the circle allowing 6 hits and 2 runs while striking out 6. Aubrey MacWilliams picked the championship to go absolutely bonkers. She went 4 for 4 at the plate with two RBI, scoring twice including a double and a triple. The Stars opened up the scoring playing 3 in the top of the second inning when Aubrey Meyer knocked in Lily Acquarola the Aubrey MacWilliams followed her up bringing in Kiely Walsh and Sophia Gessner. After a scoreless third inning, Sophie Maitland decided to help herself smashing a 2-RBI double off the top of the fence in left-centerfield. The Stars scored a third time in the 4th when Kelly Shindler (aka The Swindler) also rocked a double deep to left. As the game began to get a little hairy when the Stars didn’t capitalize on a leadoff single by Kiely Walsh and perfectly executed sacrifice by Kathleen McBride who reached on a throwing error putting the first two batters of the inning on base, three straight fly outs garnered no runs and the bottom of the inning gave the Lightning a little pep in their step that was quickly shut down when centerfielder Quinn Miracle ended the inning with a strike to the plate on an attempted sacrifice fly. Nope!!! Inning over taking all the wind out of the Lightnings sails. Violet Stanek doubled home MacWilliams in the final frame and Kiely Walsh knocked in Stanek and Shindler putting the game out of reach at 9-2 and all that was left was the ring ceremony!!! Congratulations on an absolute complete team effort by the Stars. Every single young lady contributed all weekend and it showed in the final result. Lots of hours and hard work went into this championship, not just the 9 games played this weekend, that’s just what the parents get to see!!! Awesome work ladies!!!
GO STARS!!!!
