Skooled is a weekly afterschool mentoring program at Central High School led by local college students. Skooled was started to address those issues.
The program was started bySeton Hall University graduate Monica Hall. She started the program as a result of a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Association panel discussion/forum about the disparities in education. One of the panelists at that event was, Honorable Mayor Ras Baraka, who was the principal of Central High School at the time. At the end of the program, after discussing the issue

AWARD OVERVIEW: On the forefront of social change, The Gem Project awards candidates who are passionate about public service, social justice and equity. Preference is given to those who have plans to continue service beyond graduation working in (but not limited) to fields like social work, public service, education, youth development, and criminal justice.
ELIGIBILITY: Applicants must be a current high school junior, senior, college student or recent graduate. Recent graduate is defined as graduated within 1 year of college.
AWARD: (2) $1,000.00
QTY: 2
GPA Requirement: None. It will be collected but will be masked from a selection committee.
Submission format: 5-20 min video or 800-1000 word essay @ Newark, New Jersey
If you believe mentorship is important then we need you to be apart of our movement!! We have 6 more days to sell 9 more shirts for our t-shirt fundraiser! We need you to help us meet this goal. Our I AM A MENTOR shirts honor the legacy of the 1968 Memphis Sanitation strike and the I AM A MAN signs that the strikers wore. We need you to support and share our cause. We have both $20 short sleeves and $25 long sleeves available. ✊🏽
