Devaughan Watson’s passion for music has blossomed into the mature sound that we hear today. Singer-songwriter Devaughan was born on April 15, 1991 in Columbus Hospital located in Newark, New Jersey. Born in Newark, but raised in the Village of South Orange, NJ, he constructed his voice for music at the age of 13 while singing in the shower. From his eminently influential Caribbean upbringing, Dev
aughan was exposed primarily to the vibrant vocals of reggae artists. Combined with his passion for reggae, he also listened to an array of genres, such as R&B, Hip Hop, Pop, Jazz, Country, and Gospel. The voices of reggae artists Sanchez, Beres Hammond, and Peter Tosh were accompanied by those of R&B and Soul artists Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Ginuwine, and Tyrese as some of Devaughan’s musical inspirations. The feeling of music invigorated him, that at the age of 16, he began to work on musical renditions with close friends in and out of local home studios. At the age of 21, Devaughan was discovered by Felix King while executing duties at work and quietly singing to himself. From there on, he began to seriously pursue his love for music. Devaughan released two songs entitled, Take It Off (2013) , which was a summer smash, and It Isn’t You (2013), a song expressing his vocal and writing talents, he is performing all over the tri-state area. Devaughan continues to amplify his talents and will be an artist to look for in the up-coming months, releasing many more songs in the near future.
