We are both heartbroken and proud to congratulate NYU Program in International Relations Program Director, Professor Michael John Williams, on his new position as Associate Professor of Public Affairs and Director of the International Relations Program at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University. GSAS Dean Philip Harper has appointed Professor John Fousek as our Interim Program Director for academic year 2020 - 2021.
In addition to his duties at NYU, Professor Williams is Editor-in-Chief of the journal International Politics, an Associate of the think-tank IDEAS! at the London School of Economics & Political Science, and Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council of the United States. Williams has consulted for policy-makers in the United States, Canada, and Europe on various international security issues related to NATO. He was educated at the universities of Delaware, Hamburg, Bayreuth, Bath, Berlin, and Moscow, and earned his doctorate at the London School of Economics & Political Science.
Professor Williams joined the MA in IR Program in 2014 and transformed our program into one of NYU’s most successful and rigorous graduate programs. Professor Williams has succeeded in bringing in some of the most distinguished practitioners and academics in the field of IR to teach our students. Most importantly, Professor Williams provided invaluable support, expertise, and guidance to our intelligent student and alumni body.
Faculty, staff, and students will be sure to miss the energy and dynamism Professor Williams brought to our Program. We wish him every success in his future endeavors.
It’s almost our favorite time of the year again — back to school 🎉🎓. This year we are holding five virtual faculty open houses. Come get to know more about our faculty, curriculum, and research! New students and alumni, make sure to check your email for the RSVP links!
