The Science Babe
Passionate physicist who loves inspiring people with science! Entrepreneur, Speaker & TV Presenter in physics from Stanford.
I'm a physicist, TV host and Chief Data Scientist at www.thisismetis.com. I appear on Discovery on our show Outrageous Acts of Science (11 seasons out!), National Geographic and the Travel Channel. I'm originally from Mexico and was discouraged from pursuing a career in physics as a young woman. Many years later I became the first Mexican woman to complete a Ph.D. Here's my TV reel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsN0uw6wb4s

Latino Leaders March - April Adriana Martinez - The secret ingredient: authentic flavors and a close-knit family 100 latinas 2024 Congratulations!
This was incredibly fun to watch! And I couldn't help but imagine the multitude of scenarios in which this particular use of AI technology could lead to undesired consequences. My friend and co-founder of LinkedIn, Reid Garrett Hoffman recently created an AI version of himself—REID AI—and recorded a Q&A to see how this digital twin might challenge him in new ways. Like Reid, I found his experience interesting and thought-provoking.

I believe this is the "man landing on the moon moment" of my kids' generation. That is the first thought that crossed my mind as I sat with my kids and we watched the keynote by Jensen Huang, CEO of one of the most innovative companies in the world. Yesterday, March 18th, Huang showed us what he called "the soul of NVIDIA, at the intersection of computer graphics, physics and artificial intelligence, all intersecting inside a computer.”
Watching it with my kids who are 7 and almost 5 years old made me quite emotional. All of our family discussions about celebrating failure and curiosity helped my kids understand how the road to building amazing tech products is paved with many failures and challenges. I told my daughter: "This is my gift to you. Being able to sit down and watch this with you and answer your questions about AI and quantum computing." I felt so proud.
All three of us got excited as we watched the robots interact with Jensen on stage. I was inspired by their AI solutions which will enable the discovery of new drugs, the improvement of robotics and many other incredible accomplishments.
These are some of the takeaways:
-Every company will need to build AI factories
-Nvidia is creating a digital twin of the Earth to predict weather patterns with CorrDiff which far surpasses current models
-Blackwell is a new processor design, made up of 208 billion transistors, that will be able to handle AI models and queries more quickly than the current H100, which is the most advanced GPU in the world in production today
-Computer software company Cadence is building a supercomputer with Nvidia GPUs
-The company also introduced Nvidia NIM, a software platform aimed at simplifying the deployment of AI models
I was moved when Jensen recognized Michael Dell in the audience. I remember when Dell Technologies was at the forefront of computer tech. It is good to remember how each innovation builds on what came before. I know that amazing things will be built on 's technologies. And I'm excited for my children to reap the fruits of these advances.
Don’t Miss This Transformative Moment in AI Come experience Jensen Huang’s GTC keynote live on-stage at the SAP Center in San Jose, CA to explore the AI advances that are shaping our future.
I’m very happy to participate in the convention to address an audience of hundreds of Latinas who are eager to learn about and other te homologues to empower their small businesses.

I'm super excited that my segment on is on the cover of El País. I'm so grateful to have worked with Enrique Nimo, Miguel Ángel Expósito, Germán Picazo and all the amazing team of Aprendemos Juntos 2030 (Learning Together). A project co-produced by El Pais and promoted by BBVA. The project is one of the best examples of modern and applied education.
To create this video, we filmed a series of debates with people to tackle different questions regarding . We imagined, we ideated, we debated and we made some conclusions. I flew to Madrid, where we filmed two long sessions with two different audiences, and finally the team made some inspired edits to create the final result.
I’m really proud of what we accomplished.
I hope you enjoy it—and learn something too.

Guess what? I just got crowned one of the fab twenty AI leaders by Forbes and Minsait 🎉 You can check out the proof right here: https://www.forbes.com.mx/la-promesa-de-la-inteligencia-artificial-en-mexico/ Now, don't get me wrong, AI is cool and all, but let's face it - it's not perfect. They used to whip up these fun images of all of us, and honestly, I'm over here like, "Who is that in the picture?" 😄 At first glance, I even had a sneaky suspicion that they'd accidentally mixed me up with someone from an alternate universe.

Economist Impact events panel with Stuart Woods, Chief Operating Officer of Quantum Exponential , Alex Challans of The Quantum Insider, Michael Cuthbert, Director of the UK's National Quantum Computing Centre and Tamzin Booth from the Brunswick Group
Thank you to The Economist for inviting me to participate in the panel on how to mitigate the risk of a quantum winter—the scenario where investment in quantum computing dries up. This risk stems in part from the hype that surrounds quantum computing. It is our responsibility as practitioners in the field to offer realistic assessments of what quantum computing can deliver in the next 1, 3 and 10 years. And to define our milestones in clear ways that don't make us feel like the goal post has moved.
For example, we should avoid vague claims about achieving quantum advantage. As Jack Krupansky writes, “there is no standard definition for what constitutes quantum advantage” [https://lnkd.in/d496EnMP] and so without context and precise explanations, any claims about quantum advantage can easily be twisted to fuel further hype.
This brings me to one of the points I made on the panel: the need for standardization in quantum computing.
“Standards are especially important to a young and quickly changing industry like the computer industry. They stabilize technology and encourage investment.” [https://lnkd.in/dsSSjhTu]
These words were written in 1996 by Gary Robinson and Carl Cargill to show how standards helped advance classical computers. We would be well served to learn from history and adopt standards to describe the performance of quantum computers as soon as we can. I look forward to seeing more investments in the areas of standardization and metrics.
Also, what's your idea for a really good "deep-tech campaign" to raise public awareness?
