If you planned to go to Paris in the upcoming months and you are an art lover, you should definitely see the "Travaux de Dames ?" / "Women's Work ?" exhibition, on view at the Les Arts Décoratifs museum from March 8 to September 17 2017, in Paris :

The “Travaux de Dames ?” exhibition, that opened at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs on March 8, focuses first on the artistic activities to which women were confined until the early 20th century, then highlights the initial signs of emancipation until women fully achieved the status of artists in their own right.

Drawing on all of the museum’s collections and a range of disciplines, from the applied arts and graphic design to fashion, photography and fine art, the exhibition explores themes such as the Comité des Dames, created by the Union Centrale des Art Décoratifs in 1895, evoking the promotion and training of female artists at the very beginning of the 20thcentury. The exhibition continues with works by major figures such as Hélène Henry, Elsa Schiaparelli, Sonia Delaunay, Charlotte Perriand, Kristin McKirdy, Hella Jongerius, Rei Kawakubo (Comme des Garçons), not forgetting those before them.

The aim of this exhibition and the issues it raises is to show both the role of women in design and to highlight, via their testimonies, the particularities of their individual careers.

Chiara Boni - La Petite Robe

Chiara Boni La Petite Robe FW 17-18 "Grand Hotel" Show 02/16/2017

For the new Fall/Winter 2017 collection, Chiara Boni looked at the chic, international globetrotters of today. Frequent flyers, guests of the most prestigious hotels in the world, they travel the globe in style.

Their dynamic, exciting lifestyle inspired the collection, which celebrates independent women armed with an adventurous spirit and impeccable taste.

La Petite Robe’s iconic jersey with its comfort and functionality is strategic in the development of a wardrobe, which is sophisticated and practical at the same time.

This season, the brand’s signature fabric is combined with mat and patent faux leather to create charming graphics on the feminine dresses, as well as with velvet for a precious feel. Stretch with velvet is also quilted for textured jackets, skirts and coats infused with an elegant attitude.

The sinuous shapes of women’s bodies are exalted by the zippers, which decorate necklines and cuffs injecting a graphic twist into the clothes. These can be also pulled up to create feminine peplum details at the waist of the frocks.

The evening offering sparkles with metallic accents – silver embellishments are embroidered on the fluid, ample silk georgette sleeves of draped gowns, while silver and gold micro beads enrich a jersey flared cocktail frock.

A mannish touch is introduced via the tuxedo-inspired collars and lapels appearing on both the maxi dresses and the season’s iconic range of sensual jumpsuits, shown also with lace cuffs for a touch of romanticism.

The accessories exalt the lineup’s hyper feminine attitude. Ruffles become maxi roses on clutches and mini handbags crafted from jersey and velvet. The same fabrics are used for the footwear range, including pumps, mules and sandals worked in the collection’s color palette of nocturnal tones with pops of teal and purple.

Every age, every season has its fashions, but in the street or in parliament, at work or at play, everything wear is subject to rules. And of course those rules are there to be broken.
“Tenue correcte exigée, quand le vêtement fait scandale” or “Scandalous dressing” revisits the scandals that have marked the great turning points in fashion history from the 14th century to today.

On view at the Les Arts Décoratifs museum in Paris until the 23rd of April, this exhibition is a must-see for fashion lovers.
