If you think you can starve a bedbug infestation out of existence by staying out of your bedroom for a few days, guess again. Bedbugs can go a year or longer without feeding.

One sign of the presence of bed bugs is the stains caused by their defecation. Bed bugs usually defecate in their hiding places, which appears as black or brown stains on porous surfaces or black to brown mounds on non-porous surfaces.

Different cockroaches are drawn to different environments. The Oriental roach prefers dark, damp areas and can tolerate cooler temperatures. Sometimes referred to as a "water bug," it’s found near sinks, pipes, drains, and wet appliances like refrigerators and washing machines.

Cockroaches are mostly nocturnal, meaning it's almost impossible for you to see all of them at once. If you see one or two cockroaches during the day, they might have been pushed out by overcrowding, but a pest control expert can take care of the infestation.

Termites are very active in certain areas of the U.S. and are found in most U.S. states. In fact, only one state is free of this destructive pest. Care to guess which state is a termite-free zone? That would be Alaska. It's too cold there to sustain them.

It’s important to remember that DIY ant control only saves you money when it actually gets rid of the ants. If you’re tired of making countless trips to the grocery store to get new pest control problems, we’re always here for you.

There are actually several different approaches to modern pest control. One of the most common is to kill the pest in question directly by exposing it to a lethal substance. In some cases, it’s also necessary to nullify the reproductive potential of the pest population and/or kill any eggs that have already been laid.

Did you know that our word “muscle” is from the Latin word “musculus,” which means, “little mouse?" It got this name because it was thought the movement of biceps looked like a little mouse moving around in the arm.

Many mistakenly believe that wasps and hornets only nest in ceiling eaves or attics, but the truth is that they nest everywhere, even underground. Velvet ants (a type of wasp) and yellow jackets both prefer the ground for nest building and thus homeowners need to be extra vigilant during the summer months.

To adequately keep rodents out of your home in the future, all openings need to be completely sealed off. It’s important to remember that even larger rats need only an opening of a half-inch to gain access (around the size of a nickel).

The most commonly encountered bee varieties for homeowners are honey bees, carpenter bees, and bumble bees. These varieties are known for coming out of hibernation in the spring, and being active through the summer and fall before hibernating in the winter.

There are a variety of rats that are native to the United States. A great example is the cotton rat. These are native to western and southern US, and are well-known for damaging crops that are meant to become food.

An important part of cockroach pest control involves good sanitation practices inside the home. All food and garbage should be kept in tight containers, all crumbs and spills cleaned up as they occur, and any leaks or drain issues repaired quickly.

There are thousands of cockroach species all over the world, but not all are pests. Some are very important because they assist in the decay of organic material. However, the ones that invade our kitchens or restaurants are pests, which is why pest control experts concentrate on them.

Finding termites is not a death sentence for your home since termites take a long time to cause serious destruction. Calling an exterminator is the best way to treat an infestation because ineffective home remedies will only allow the infestation to continue.

Cockroaches prefer dark, warm, crowded spaces, which is why they can be hard to find. To prevent re-infestation after a professional pest control treatment, keep cupboards, drawers and storage spaces clean, tidy and free from clutter.

Have you ever seen a dog who has been sprayed by a skunk? It’s a pathetic sight- scratching eyes to get the stink off, whining- just general unhappiness. They forget that they probably caused the skunk o spray them in the first place.

Live traps are best for mice if you live in an area where you can release the mice at least one mile from your home. Traps can be baited using peanut butter, chocolate, dried fruit, or bacon. Ironically, cheese is not cited as a good bait to use for attracting mice.

Interestingly, there are a number of species of ants who create massive "super colonies" that can stretch for thousands of miles! Most of these species of ants are native to South America and the rain forests of the world.

Does this scenario sound familiar? You see an ant trail going across the floor and run out to buy some traps or pesticides. This seems to work for a while, but the ants just keep coming back. To get the ants gone for good, call an exterminator.

Rats are small, so it can be easy to think that they're not a threat. Sadly, rats have been known to attack people, even babies or infants in their cribs. Fortunately, a pest control expert can help you get rid of rats and any threat they pose.

Did you know that cockroaches love to hide in places around plumbing pipes, as this supplies them with much needed moisture? Even if there are no leaks, there is likely some condensation from the temperature difference.

Did you know that social wasps live in colonies in paper-like nests? Interestingly, social wasps live in colonies in which there are three castes: the egg-laying queens (one or more per colony), the workers or sexually undeveloped females, and the male drones.

There are a number of termite varieties around the world, and their numbers add up. Some entomologists estimate that for every human on the earth there is 1,000 pounds worth of termites.

What are you going to do with your family and pets for up to 4 or 5 days while your house is fumigated for termites? Ask your pest control experts about local treatment options that can handle whole-house infestations, since moving the family away may not be a workable option.

Do bed bugs only live in beds? No, and that’s one of the reasons they are difficult to control. Bed bugs find secluded spots such as cracks in baseboards, inside chair and sofa cushions, on curtains, and even behind picture frames.

Scientists say bed bugs have been around since at least the days of the ancient Egyptians. After a peak that ended by the 1940s and 1950s, bed bugs were not a major problem until about 2000. Experts say increased travel by people throughout the world and resistance to pesticides explains the revival.

While we’ll do everything we can to trap the nuisance animals in your home without harming them, there are cases where relocating the animal isn’t possible. If you aren’t sure what methods are available for the animal that’s in your home, we’re always ready to discuss it.

Rats and other rodents are an incredibly huge problem around the world. In fact, around half of the food we produce is destroyed by rodents. Most of this is because of contamination from the excrement, which is why it's important to keep them under control.

We recognize that young children can have trouble understanding the difference between the friendly animals in cartoons and the nuisance animals that have infiltrated your home. Having these animals removed as quickly as possible is the best way to protect your children from getting bitten.

Even though termites and cockroaches may share a common ancestor, termites are tidy creatures. They spend much of their "off duty" time grooming one another to help control the growth of harmful bacteria.

A lot of people who discover that their travel items contain bed bugs throw them out, but this is not necessary. In fact, the key is to contain the bed bugs by sealing infected items in plastic and later thoroughly laundering them or washing them by hand. Bed bugs can also be destroyed by freezing them.

Termites eat the wood in which they nest while carpenter ants just dig into the wood to excavate their nests. As they do not eat the wood, they will push it out through the holes they have made leaving small piles of wood shavings. Either way, it is time to call in the exterminators.

It can take pest control experts days to completely get rid of bed bugs, so prevention is the key. This means watching out for them when you are in a motel or movie theater, for example. Be hyper-aware of your surroundings and check your clothes, belongings, and baggage before entering your home.

While any ant infestation in your house is annoying, some can actually be dangerous. Fire ants, for example, sometimes nest in houses and have a bite that is painful (and can even be deadly for sensitive individuals). Keep your house free of pests by having a professional exterminator take care of the problem.
