All summer long, Anna was looking forward to the holidays—getting together with her children and grandchildren for the first time in over a year. But in October, she experienced chest pains, and her husband Samuel called 911. She needed a coronary bypass. The operation was a success, and she was discharged to the Cardiac Unit at Beth Abraham for rehab. She would not be going home for Thanksgiving. But the Unit’s board-certified cardiologist approved a Thanksgiving visit from her family, and the dietitian designed a modified turkey dinner for her. The visit brought tears to Anna’s eyes…as it did to her family and many of the Cardiac Unit’s staff. Best of all, with the help of that staff, and the Unit’s 24-hour monitoring, her heart health significantly improved…and she was back home in time for Christmas and a joyous reunion with family. “It was the greatest gift of all,” Anna said.
