Congratulations to Marc Palmieri, Creative Writing MFA alum on the recent publication of his recent book “She danced with Lightning” by @posthillpress.

This is the first endorsement for the book.

"Marc Palmieri is a masterful storyteller. ‘She Danced with Lightning’ is a beautifully rendered memoir of a young family in crisis and a marriage challenged on the path to healing. When Anna, Marc and Kristen's infant, experiences seizures, the family embarks on a medical and emotional odyssey that will require a steadfast love and determination to cope with all that
lies ahead. A resplendent story filled with hope. Brava."

NEW EPISODE!! In conjunction with Lionel Cruet's exhibit at @playinspiregallery 💥 this episode digs into his work as well as his teaching.

Lionel Cruet @lionelcruet @lionelcruetstudio spoke about "Rhetorics of an Uncertain Future" which is in its third iteration at Play + Inspire Gallery. He shared the process of developing the exhibition in all three iterations, from private viewing at Yi Gallery in NYC to exhibit at El Lobi in Puerto Rico to online at Play + Inspire. The title was chosen carefully to encompass the writing that accompanies the exhibition, while also exploring the visual arts as a mode of persuasion, a mode of rhetoric. We talked about how apt the idea of uncertain futures feels in this moment.

I loved hearing about how Lionel’s process begins with drawing and watercolor and then expands into digital media, video, and transmedia storytelling. He talked about collaboration and how he works with fellow artists, curators, sound designers, and animators to bring his ideas to life. He also shared advice for artists and educators.

🎧 Listen wherever you get your podcasts or at www.teachingartistpodcast.com.

👀 View the exhibit at www.playinspiregallery.com (link in bio). We recommend viewing on a computer 🖥 rather than mobile device.

Dear MFA community.

The CCNY MFA Program in Creative Writing invites you to our new Spotlight reading series engaging authors, thought leaders and the public in the most pressing conversations of our time, through the lens of literature and the arts.

Spotlight: Writers on Iran Feat. Mikhal Dekel

In less than two years, four faculty have published four books focusing on Iran from a broad array of angles, and all to wide acclaim. This semester, we’re excited to feature Professor Mikhal Dekel in conversation with novelist Salar Abdoh as they discuss her award-winning and groundbreaking historical memoir, Tehran Children, which The New York Times Book Review hailed as “Not simply another detail of the Holocaust but a matter of enduring existential, psychological and moral reflection.”

Mikhal Dekel is a Distinguished Professor of English and the 2021-22 Stuart Z. Katz Professor of Humanities at City College of New York and the CUNY Graduate Center. For this book, she was named a finalist for the 2020 Sami Rohr Prize for Jewish Literature, the National Jewish Book Award for Writing Based on Archival Material, and the Chautauqua Prize for Contribution to the Literary Arts.

Register for the event, which will be both in-person and live-streamed, at the link below.

A message from President Vincent Boudreau on the passing of Brent Renaud, CCNY student: "It is with deep sadness that I share the news that one of our students, Brent Renaud, was killed in Ukraine this morning. Brent was a student in the MFA program for Creative Writing, although he arrived on our campus with a fully realized career as a photojournalist and filmmaker. It was in that latter capacity that he traveled to Ukraine."

Congratulations to Manreet Someshwar, MFA Creative Writing 2021, on the continued success of her most recent published book, “Lahore,”which is the first book in a triology about the Partition. 👏👏👏

Repost @manreetsomeshwar
・・・
All my writing has been an attempt to bring to paper stories I grew up with, that spoke of an undivided land and time, that are now being erased. Partition is not our past, it is resonating loudly in our present. It asks us not to sentimentalize but to interrogate it so that we may reconcile and heal.

An interview with @toi_books about Partition, Punjab, Lahore and more…
