Can you imagine if a pitcher of a baseball or softball team would practice pitching without aiming at a catcher's mitt? How successful do you think that pitcher would be with no target to focus on? How would this pitcher receive feedback to know if he/she is throwing strikes or balls? This same concept can be applied to our lives and businesses. If we are not aiming at a target (setting goals/budgets), how do we know if we are throwing strikes or balls? Sometimes we do not give ourselves something to focus on or aim at because of the fear of failure. If you are not setting goals, creating targets how do you know if you are winning the game. Don't be scared...set some goals...if you miss some, it is better than not setting them at all! What does your catcher's mitt look like (what is your target)?

Have you ever thought of owning your own business? Do you think owning your own business is scary and complicated? I am here to tell you it is not! Owning your own business does not mean your business has to be BIG (meaning owning/renting a building, employing hundreds of people, etc.). This book helped me understand that. I starting reading "The $100 Startup" written by Chris Guillebeau (image shown below) about 3 months after I started my own "microbusiness" and it really helped me understand how simple working for yourself can be. Do not misunderstand, owning your own business brings challenges and is hard work, but if you can figure out what you are passionate about and can figure out these 3 things that the book describes is needed to become a business, you can create a much more fulfilling life:
1. Figure out a product or service you can sell.
2. Find people who are willing to pay for that product or service.
3. Figure out a way to get paid for that product of service.
Think about the things you are passionate about, then think about numbers 1-3 and see if you can figure out a way to share your gifts and talents in a way that fills your "energy tank". I am here to help you on that journey! Happy reading!

[01/01/21]   Happy New Year to All! What a year 2020 WAS! As I reflect on 2020, one word comes to mind...resiliency! I believe we have all learned the true meaning of this word after what we were faced with in 2020. We were all forced to think outside of the box, pivot from our business models and live a little leaner to get through a challenging time. We proved we are resilient and can handle ANYTHING life throws our way. I believe 2020 was full of lessons that we can now apply to 2021. We are all stronger emotionally and smarter mentally as we start off this new year. I challenge you all to set goals for yourself and your business, figure out what the critical drivers are that you need to set to achieve those goals and create a life you want. I recommend setting financial goals and personal growth goals. You are the only person responsible for YOU and your LIFE. Make things happen, shake things up! I promise it will be all worth it! Cheers to 2021!

[08/01/20]   Today makes 1 year I started my company! As I reflect on this past year, I am so grateful. Grateful to have directly impacted 89 lives (this does not include who I have impacted indirectly and of course this is a very conservative number and should likely be much higher). Grateful to experience the freedom of flexibility by making my own schedule. Grateful to have helped so many people achieve their goals and empower them to do so. Have you always wanted to start your own company? Then DO IT! Be smart about it, test the market to make sure there is a need for the product or service you want to provide, make sure customers are willing to pay for it and make sure you can make enough money to support you and your family. THEN, get rid of your fears, get out of your own way and go for it! It will be the most liberating and exciting thing you ever do for yourself!

Had an AMAZING time presenting as a guest speaker to a group of entrepreneurs who are participating in a Small Business Round Table put on by the Small Business Development Center located in the LITE Center in Lafayette. These entrepreneurs are so passionate about what they are doing...I was so INSPIRED and enjoyed every minute of it! There are GREAT things happening in this building. If you are a business owner, you really need to contact me so I can help you get available resources for "Small and Emerging Businesses" or contact the Small Business Development Center! There is grant money available to help businesses with different areas of their business. Accounting and Finance are approved areas for this grant money, which means 50% of the cost of my projects can be paid for with this money! I encourage you to take advantage of these resources while they are available!

Intro to Lemonade Stand Videos

Financial concepts explained simply...how hard can it be to understand a lemonade business, right?!?!

[01/31/20]   While growing up, I LOVED playing softball and still today I love the game of baseball. I love everything about it: the competitiveness, the team spirit, individuals contributing small amounts to achieve great victories, teammates pulling towards a common goal, everyone measuring their own individual scores like batting averages and on base percentages and consistently fighting to do better and WIN. For some reason, this team spirit and constant practice and improvement does not always carry over into the business world. People are scared to measure or be measured. People are scared to hold others accountable or be held accountable. Business owners and managers should think of themselves as baseball coaches. If someone on your team is struggling, what would you do if you were their baseball coach? You would either get them some additional coaching, work with them one on one or ask them to leave the team. As a coach, you must measure your team to know what and who needs improvement. You should also share those results with the players so they understand if the team is winning the game and how they are individually contributing to that success. Players do not want to fail but they need to know how they are measured and how they are contributing to the greater good of the company. Start looking at yourself through the lens of a baseball coach and see what different decisions you will make as a leader!
