Just a reminder that our office and Recycling services are closed today in observance of Juneteenth.

As promised, here are a few facts about Juneteenth:

• Juneteenth is celebrated each year on June 19 and commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.

• The holiday marks June 19, 1865, when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and informed enslaved African Americans that they were free — more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.

• The name “Juneteenth” is a combination of the words “June” and “nineteenth.”

• The Emancipation Proclamation was signed by Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863.

• Juneteenth became a federal holiday in the United States in 2021, making it the first new federal holiday established since Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983.

• Traditional Juneteenth celebrations often include music, community gatherings, educational events, storytelling, and family cookouts.

• Red foods and drinks are commonly associated with Juneteenth and symbolize resilience, strength, and sacrifice.

• Texas was the first state to officially recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday in 1980.

• Juneteenth is also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day, and Emancipation Day.

• The Juneteenth flag features a bursting star that represents freedom and a new beginning for African Americans in all 50 states.

At this time, the only scheduled closure for June will be Friday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth.

If you have not yet taken the opportunity to learn more about the significance of this holiday, we encourage you to do so. But don't worry, we will also be sharing a few educational facts on that day.

Please note that Recycling services will be closed, and the gates will remain closed on the 19th as well.

Reminder we are closed today for Election Day. There is no recycling the gates are closed. Get out and vote today!

New Castle Transit May News:
We will be closed on Tuesday May 5th for election day and also Monday May 25th for Memorial Day. There will be no recycling on these days as the gates will be closed.

We hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. We truly appreciate your patience today as we experienced a high volume of riders.

Our service supports individuals of all ages and continues to be an important resource within our community. The photo truly reflects the level of need for our service. This bus was completely full, with standing room only, and still had two additional riders waiting to board.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve you and remain committed to providing reliable and accessible transportation.

Friday was a fantastic day for us at our State Training, the weather couldn’t have been better! That said, we’re refreshed, recharged, and back at it today, ready to continue serving our community.
