It’s More Than a Cleft Bottle!

When you hear “specialty feeding system,” you might immediately think of cleft lip and palate, but these bottles can help with a variety of feeding challenges. 💙
Some babies may have difficulty creating the seal or suction needed to feed effectively from a standard bottle. That's where a specialty feeding system may help.

The family behind The Blue Disc Project has been working on a new project called Sleepy Angel Stories. 🌙

Sleepy Angel Stories sends parents a personalized Christian bedtime story every night. Your child’s name, their pet, and the person putting them to bed are woven into each story.

The stories start in Genesis and work through the Bible in order, with each night ending with a Bible verse and a short prayer.

The Blue Disc Project was born from our experience as parents to Gabriel, and that same experience of wanting to create something meaningful for families helped inspire Sleepy Angel Stories.

💙 BLUE DISC BASICS:
Why don’t we talk about alveolar clefts more?

A question from our community got us learning! 👀

An alveolar cleft is a gap in the bony ridge of the upper jaw (the alveolus) where the teeth develop.

Alveolar clefts are congenital and commonly occur with a cleft lip, especially when the cleft extends through the upper gum. But not every child with a cleft lip has an alveolar cleft.

🦷 So why don't we hear about them as often?

Part of the reason is that the alveolus is inside the mouth, so it isn't as visible as a cleft lip. And unlike some cleft repairs that happen during infancy, the alveolar cleft is often addressed later as a child's permanent teeth are developing.

This may eventually involve orthodontic treatment and an alveolar bone graft to help create a bony foundation for the developing teeth.

Cleft care is a journey, and there are so many parts of that journey that aren't always talked about. 💙
