I am reaching out to you today regarding a fundraising event that has personal meaning for me. It is A Night In My Shoes, benefits children diagnosed with cancer. I can fully appreciate the unique challenges children have when fighting cancer.

I write to see if you would consider sponsoring the event. I am sure there are always a lot of “asks” for sponsorship so in any case I hope to see you at the event in October!

A Night In My Shoes, benefitting Kids Beating Cancer and Ringside Charitable Trust will be held at the brand new JW Marriott Bonnet Creek.

The physical and mental obstacles overcome by children fighting cancer and championship boxers are a testament to the strength of the human spirit. Over the course of two evenings this October, we will pay tribute to their strength and courage and raise funds for their care.

October 15th | Champions Evening

· Featuring some of UK's greatest boxers

· The mediated discussion will inspire combat fans as well as anyone encouraged by the power of the human spirit.

October 16th | Black Tie Gala

· Lavish Black Tie Gala Affair

· Cocktail reception, formal dinner, program, live entertainment, dancing all night long, and silent auction.

· Live performances and immersive entertainment all night long.

Please give it some thought about how you can help out, be it a sponsorship, donation, auction item or purchase tickets to attend the event, we truly appreciate all you can do.

With kindest regards,

A good day for a cuppa 💕

My sweet father-in-law, Frank Stanley, gained his heavenly wings last night. He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed. I will tell the bees.

There was a time when almost every rural British family who kept bees followed a unique tradition.

Whenever there was a death in the family, someone had to go out to the hives and tell the bees of the terrible loss that had befallen the family.

Failing to do so often resulted in further losses such as the bees leaving the hive, or not producing enough honey, or even dying.

Traditionally, the bees were kept abreast of not only deaths but all-important family matters including births, marriages, and long absences due to journeys. If the bees were not told, all sorts of calamities were thought to happen. This unique custom is known as “telling the bees”.

The practice of telling the bees may have its origins in Celtic mythology that held that bees were the link between our world and the spirit world.

So if you had any message that you wished to pass to someone who was dead, all you had to do was tell the bees and they would pass along the message.

The typical way to tell the bees was for the head of the household, or “good wife of the house” to go out to the hives, knock gently to get the attention of the bees, and then softly murmur in a doleful tune the solemn news.

Little rhymes developed over the centuries specific to a particular region. In Nottinghamshire, the wife of the dead was heard singing quietly in front of the hive, “The master's dead, but don't you go; Your mistress will be a good mistress to you.”

In Germany, a similar couplet was heard, “Little bee, our lord is dead; Leave me not in my distress”.

But the relationship between bees and humans goes beyond superstition. It’s a fact, that bees help humans survive. 70 of the top 100 crop species that feed 90% of the human population rely on bees for pollination.

Without them, these plants would cease to exist, and with it all animals that eat those plants. This can have a cascading effect that would ripple catastrophically up the food chain.

Losing a beehive is much worse than losing a supply of honey. The consequences are life-threatening.

The act of telling the bees emphasizes this deep connection humans share with the insect.

The bees stung me several times while I was putting the hive back together. The most stings I have ever had since taking up beekeeping. Thankfully the high winds only took out one hive and not all of them. Counting my blessings. Benadryl and bed for me tonight 🐝

Our teas and honey are now at Mattress Express (next door to the tea shop). Open 9-6 Monday thru Saturday. We will be partnering with them until the tea shop reopens. You can also find us online at

I know many of you are messaging wondering when we will reopen. In an effort to be transparent I can not give an answer. My focus is on the bees as well as my father in law who has been diagnosed with cancer and is currently in the hospital with kidney failure. My father in law, Frank Stanley, owned Mattress Express for 25 years and has been a big part of our Antioch community. He has also allowed me to keep bees on his property so I could grow my honey business. I do not feel there would even be a British Bee if it was not for him. Please keep our family in your prayers as we help make his remaining days as comfortable as possible.
Thank you for everyone who has supported the tea shop over the last year and a half and those who continue to show their support with your online orders. We hope to be open again soon.

Thank you for your understanding and support.
