For 40+ years, The Hess Collection has been producing complex, elegant wines from its estates on Mt. Veeder & in Napa Valley.
The winery & vineyards are founded in extremes & thrive on the rugged terrain from which the winemakers craft luxury wines. Founder Donald Hess began building the Hess Collection legacy over 40 years ago with the determination to defy convention and pursue winemaking at elevation. In 1978, he established The Hess Collection Winery on the site of one of the region’s oldest wineries on Mount Veeder.
We just introduced two new ways to experience Hess Persson Estates.
The Bar Tasting offers a refined, focused flight of four wines inside our historic stone winery—it’s the perfect prompt introduction to our winemaking legacy.
The Reserve Estate Tasting showcases our state-of-the-art Lion’s Head cellar followed by a seated exploration of reserve-tier wines, culminating in the iconic “The Lion” Cabernet.

This June, we're bringing back the Summer Sunset Dinner, featuring an incredible meal from Chef Chris Lemerand. We'll be celebrating our Summer Releases, including Albariño and Malbec.
The courtyard garden will be in full bloom. We'll bring some fun deep cuts from the library, too.

Our Collectors Club is made up of devoted fans of our wines, far and wide. And for that reason, we've been making more wines just for them, including the one we literally named for our Members.
The Collectors Cuvée, made by Senior Winemaker Stephanie Pope, is inspired by the blending parties we hosted years ago. Every vintage is different, meant to reflect the best of every harvest.
Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon come together for a classic Napa Valley harmony. Deep flavors of red and black fruits. An elegant, vanilla-scented finish. Enjoyable when it's young, but it ages just as well.

The Lion represents our most pure expression of Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon. A true showcase of the power of Mount Veeder, The Lion comes from Ridge 4, just one specific block from the Veeder Hills vineyard, where we grow our most exceptional Cabernet. It continues to honor the spirit behind the wines of The Hess Collection under the stewardship of the next generation of family. As founder Donald Hess would always say, "live each day with the heart and courage of the lion," a credo we strive to live by to this day.

Club Members are about to receive our 2019 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon from Rutherford, the last of the 2019s to be released in this series.
Rutherford is reknowned for producing rich, concentrated, and highly complex Cabernets. Our vintage offers a classic expression of Rutherford — lush plums, blackberries, and cocoa. Welcoming, velvety tannins enrich a palate of black raspberry and elegantly toasted oak flavors hint at nutmeg and clove.
Our Appellation Series from the Small Block label not only highlight the lands they come from — every bottle gives back. 1% of sales is donated to The Land Trust of Napa Valley to support their critical work preserving the wild and open spaces of the valley.

An impressive wall of ivy has adorned our barrel chai and art collection for many years. But, on this side, it's time to do a bit of spring cleaning. Thanks to our facilities and garden teams, a bit of history has been revealed.
Built in 1903, this stone building has seen lifetimes pass by. From Theodore Gier to The Christian Brothers to us, this winery has lived many lives, itself.
The original stone structure now houses a barrel chai, a cellar, and the Hess Art Collection.

Our first Member Release Reception was so much fun! Wine was made to be shared with good food and great friends. And these Receptions are a new way for us to provide that essential space for relaxation and connection for our Members.
