This is a combination of a few things we don’t like to see.

This oil burning boiler flue has never been cleaned. We couldn’t even open the clean out door because the water line for the boiler was installed in front of the door. After getting the door off the hinges we noticed that the flue wasn’t built correctly, you couldn’t clean it out. We had to bust a hole in the flue tile to remove all the soot that was piled up. The clay liner is deteriorating from the sulfur output on the boiler. All the orange specs in the bucket are pieces of the clay liner.

This system is only 3 years old and it has never been used.

We performed a for the new owners to make sure the system was safe for use. You can see the white staining inside from the chimney holding water. Efflorescence is good because it shows you there is a problem, however the moisture problem is one that isn’t good to find.
