Asheville to Atlanta wedding and portrait photographer, available for travel throughout the US and i Love is the best thing about humanity, and when you look close enough it’s at the root of nearly all of our greatest accomplishments.
So, I choose to celebrate love in its many forms- overt or subtle, corny, sweet, abiding, and ephemeral. That is the core of my photography, and I try to keep it at the core of who I am as a person.
Operating as usual
I do love a good veil photo!
Chloe and Alan got married on the lake, and were wonderful about spending a little time away from their guests so we could get some fantastic shots (even letting me direct them up onto a rock wall to get the angle and the light right).
When you're choosing a wedding photographer, talk ahead of time about what you want from your photos and let them direct you, but also don't be afraid to jump in with ideas or thoughts too. Picking a good fit for you is only the first step- wedding photography is a collaborative process, so you have to be willing to participate in it and trust them to offer direction that will lead to cool shots you love!
The sunset tonight made the trees look like they were on fire. Driving home after a session I found myself thinking about space... not the sort we're all floating around in, but the sort we creatives require the same way trees require sunlight- space to breathe, to think, to experiment, and to play. Our society has stripped much of that away, insisting we find value in fullness- gaps in a calendar mean we're not putting time to good use, hobbies need to generate income, leisure is wasted time that you could use to do something meaningful... but I don't buy it. Space is where new thoughts live. We need those thoughts, not to survive, but to thrive. How will you take space today?
This is one of my other art pieces- it's a ruby moth, and it's made of layers of cut wooden pieces painted and glued to make the final form. This one is about 4 feet wide. Our lives are a creative endeavor - sometimes We have to express that energy in different ways.
The pandemic may have delayed their wedding (and many others!) but it only serves to make the day that much more amazing in the end. The setting was gorgeous, the weather perfect, Ave the people remained the best part of it all!
Congratulations, Sarah and Marc! I wish for you the persistent knowledge of joy, deep and abiding,. Love to you and yours!
Getting ready for the wedding- grandpa Bernie is seen here warming up for tomorrow's gig, playing a wedding processional!
Finished another piece. These are keeping me sane because I can't spend as long in the editing chair as I used to- finishing pieces makes me feel okay about the much longer task of editing weddings and sessions with thousands of images to go through.
Got up at 3, drove, hiked up a mountain in the pitch dark, saw the Milky Way the clearest I've ever seen it, watched the sunrise, and photographed a great surprise proposal in the freezing wind! Must be Tuesday.

Changing my perspective.
nearly done with this one...
I haven't shot a panorama in a while - the full size version will print at 100" wide. It was a beautiful day today!
The weather today is stunning, if a little windy! There's something about the mountains with clouds...
Moments matter. Now more than ever before the importance of gathering our memories is becoming clear! Let me capture yours with respect, care, and joy!
Sometimes I get to do special things, like this styled session in one of the new spots over at McGuire's... Watch their page for other shots from this fantastic day!!!

This is one of my favorite images from Chelsea's bridal session- she was so at home on her horse that we only got a few on foot! What a great day!
Chelsea and Hunter had a beautiful wedding out at McDowall Acres!
This little thrift store find is going to become my first project piece for video equipment... The pieces have been ordered to augment what I already have and I'm going to begin work on it next week!
From time to time I have the distinct pleasure of photographing people again. Natalie and Casey celebrated their 11th anniversary not long ago... I can only hope that we all find our people the same way they have.

It's rare that I stop to take a photo just for myself anymore, but I found half an hour this weekend to do just that. My advice to all of us is to remember what it feels like to do something we love just for the sake of enjoying it. Then, do that. It doesn't have to be a lifestyle change or a complete rebuild of our busy schedule... it can be just stopping on the side of the road and sticking a foot in the creek, smelling the leaves, and hearing the water flow across rocks.

Today I'm running the live stream again - this time it's Playing, dancing, and Singing Appalachian Style- clogging and folk songs with Aubrey Atwater!
If you'd like to watch, it's hosted by the John C Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC as part of their Virtual Demonstration program. It costs $10 to watch, but it's totally worth it.
Very much loved working with these two!
What an incredible day. More live streaming, but with the unmistakable chill of fall sneaking in, you can't help but be energized and invigorated @ John C. Campbell Folk School
This is what it takes to put on a live stream! Believe it or not everything in this picture serves a specific purpose, and only the things that have broken in the past have duplicates! Lol
Finishing up my walk.
Sanity check, post-wedding, pre-editing, pre-next-wedding. A walk in the woods and a moment with the water...
Had a fantastic photo shoot yesterday with two amazing artists. Heidi is an incredible blues musician and Misty is an amazing painter who also happens to be a super talented hair and makeup artist.
