Tater Creek Farm
Located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, we are a small hobby farm. Join us! π
Well the cats out of the bag.. or should I say the peachicks are out of the egg....
We had our female peacock be a busy girl the last month. She hatched out FOUR peachicks!
The cons outweighed the pros & we decided it's best for the chick's to be brooder raised.
Now the horses get a view from inside their stalls. We added some windows to the barn π
So lucky to get to see this every day!
Just a peacock & his mountains

Well.. This is the part of farming that's not talked about as much.
Earlier this week, Munchkin kidded the CUTEST buckling ever. I was a bit worried for him due to his size. He was teensy tiny little Itty baby π₯Ή
She did everything by the book; he was doing well the first day. But things took a turn for the worse & due to unforseen circumstances we ended up loosing him.
It's been hard to deal with this, but we're focusing on Munchkin at this time and keeping her spirits up as she's had the hardest loss of us all. β€οΈβπ©Ή

Head on over to this cute little stand off 64 You'll find some of the best local eggs you can get! They also have other goodies, too!

Momma said "Copy and Paste"
I knew this morning she was going to kid!
Walked down to the barn this evening and she was peeking around the corner of one of the stalls like "i did a thing". So I told her "I already know you have a baby over there".
Yep, sure enough. Baby #3 to hit the ground safe and sound today. A little doeling. π«Άπ₯°
Sugar gave us not one, but TWO beautiful healthy babies yesterday evening! She is a first time momma and loves them so much already!! π
One is a turkey egg, and one is a chicken egg. Can you tell which one is which π
Well - it happened. I've been saying no to chick's all year long as none of our hens went broody, but Tractor Supply marked these babies down to $1 each, all pullets. 6 for almost the price of 2 π
Couldn't ask for a more beautiful evening then the one we had the other day. π«Ά

Tell me it's Spring time without telling me it's Spring time.
This is an 8 quart bucket slap full of our hens hard work and dedication!
Yep! Younger generation keeping the older one alive
this might be true....π€£β€

Spring is that feeling of happiness you get when you sit outside for the first few times to soak up the warmer weather and clear skies after months of rain, mud and cold. π₯°

We are happy to welcome these 2024 spring kiddos to the farm! On the right is our new buckling, and on the left is a new doeling.
Sugar is also going to kid soon with Munchkin to follow after. π€© hopefully all goes well for our girls. They're first fresheners this year.

Some of yall that have been here have seen him.
This is our heand honcho, Dave.
Yes, I'm sure you see those crazy spurs - but no, he has never offered to spur anyone on the farm. He's a very gentle rooster and our head roo! He watches the whole flock, gives his girls snacks, and puts the younger roos in their place. He also keeps guard and sometimes lays in the nesting boxes making sure theyre top tier. He plays with the dogs, and even let's us pick him up whenever.
And 3 years ago, he was just a wee chick with the hens when we started out. So technically it's our flocks 3rd birthday!
This rooster is worth his weight in gold, and so is our flock!
Getting the first taste of spring! π₯°

Happy Friday yall!! π
π¨ PSA - BEFRIEND THE CROWS!
This hawk tried to fly in to scout out our chickens. Thankfully our roosters alerted everyone on the ground to take cover. Then right behind the hawk came the crows. They were flying into him, all circled him, and flew him away from the flock. The most beneficial thing you can do for your chickens is befriend the crows!!
Love our girl π₯°
Happy Molly Mule Monday.
