•Have knee swelling
•You cannot fully extend or flex the knee
•Notice an obvious deformity in the knee joint
•Have a fever along with knee pain, swelling, or redness

According to the CDC approximately 50 million adults in the U.S. are living with chronic pain. Pain lasting months or years can rob you of a good quality of life. While it may not be possible to cure or eliminate the underlying cause of pain entirely, there are many things you can do to reduce it to a manageable level.

Regular exercise, eating a balanced diet, getting enough sleep, and managing stress can all help. In addition, don't hesitate to ask for support from loved ones or a therapist. Pain can be overwhelming at times, but by taking steps to manage it, you can take back control of your life.

Back pain from muscle strain is something that many of us have experienced. Fortunately, you don’t have to live with the pain.

You can often treat back muscle strain at home. The most recent school of thought for treating soft tissue injuries involves the catchy acronym 𝑃.𝐸.𝐴.𝐶.𝐸 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐿.𝑂.𝑉.𝐸.

🔹𝐏rotection: Avoid activities that cause pain the first few days after an injury.
🔹𝐄levation: Elevate the injured limb above the heart if possible (not applicable with back strain.)
🔹𝐀void anti-inflammatories: This sounds counter-intuitive, but avoid ice and anti-inflammatory medications that can reduce tissue healing.
🔹𝐂ompression: Use taping or an elastic bandage to reduce swelling.
🔹𝐄ducation: Let nature take its course and avoid unnecessary, unproven treatments.
𝐴𝑛𝑑
🔹𝐋oad: Gradually increase load while listening to your body. Pain should be your guide.
🔹𝐎ptimism: Stay confident and positive to keep your brain in the right mindset for healing.
🔹𝐕ascularization: Resume activity with pain-free cardiovascular activities that increase blood flow.
🔹𝐄xercise: Take an active approach to recovery with exercise to restore strength and mobility.

If your pain and mobility challenges do not improve with at-home care, it may be time to try physical therapy. Schedule a physical therapy assessment to address your back pain and take the first steps toward healing. https://bit.ly/3korzTG

Winter can be tough on your joints, but there are ways to feel better. Try these practical tips to help ease your joint pain during the cold months.

𝐁𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐥𝐞 𝐔𝐩
In cold weather, stay warm to reduce pain - electric blankets, flannel sheets, warm clothes, scarves, and gloves. When you return indoors, take a hot bath or shower to warm up.

𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐒𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠
If you are prone to swelling in your joints, get ahead of it on cold winter days. Snug gloves, braces, elastic bands, compression gloves, and socks exert mild pressure on affected joints to reduce swelling.

𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠
Exercise is shown to lower pain for people with arthritis. But it's easy to lose motivation when it's frigid outside. But we promise, once you get moving, you're going to feel better—and not just in your joints.

Physical therapy for arthritis helps patients exercise in a safe, controlled environment to prevent further damage to painful joints. Contact a clinic near you to learn how physical therapy can help you feel and move better this winter. https://bit.ly/3korzTG

Cold therapy, also known as cryotherapy, has become increasingly popular, but what does it do, and is it right for you?

Cryotherapy uses sub-zero temperatures to treat body pain and soreness. It can be used through ice massage, ice packs, and ice baths or through whole-body cryotherapy, which involves exposing the body to extremely cold air for two to four minutes inside a chamber or tank.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐈𝐬 𝐂𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐲 𝐔𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐅𝐨𝐫?
✅ Arthritis
✅ Chronic inflammation
✅ Chronic pain
✅ Joint pain and swelling
✅ Headaches and migraines
✅ Multiple sclerosis
✅ Muscle pain and fatigue
✅ Sports injuries
✅ Sprains and strains

Because cryotherapy activates a rush of adrenaline and “feel good” endorphins throughout the body, it may also be helpful if you are experiencing anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders.

It’s important to consult your healthcare provider to determine if cold therapy and other treatments are safe and appropriate for your specific health concerns.

Today is a day to honor the brave men and women who have served and continue to serve our country. We thank them for their courage, service, and sacrifice. Let us never forget the incredible debt of gratitude we owe them.

Through Upstream Pillars With Purpose, our associates from around our organization have volunteered their time with organizations to raise funds in support of our Military Personnel & Family Care funds.

This fund will focus on serving military personnel–active duty or retired–and their families by making grants to charities that provide for the education, and physical and mental therapy, as well as the basic living needs of military personnel and those who care for them. The fund will also provide support to transitional services that aid veterans as they return to their communities.

This year's recipients include Missouri Patriot Paws, Save The Brave, Warrior Freedom Service Dogs, Wreaths Across America - Official Page, Range Fore Hope Foundation, Folds of Honor, and Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society

Pillars Funds are the first ever formal, tax-deductible, associate driven charitable program that provides a way for both associates and patients to give back lending support to one another, and to worthy causes at home and around the world.
