What symptoms can loss of normal neck curve cause?
If you’ve been dealing with neck pain or headaches, this can definitely be the primary cause.
This is something that is super common due to desk jobs, phones, and can even affect parents that are constantly looking down at their kids.
It is wayyyy more common now in kids due to devices. We’ve seen teenagers that look like some 35-40 year olds on x rays.
Lack of curve is associated with
- Pain
- Decreased range of motion
- Tightness and stiffness
- Decreased blood flow to the 🧠
- Tingling in the arms and hands
- Unexplained neurological issues
- Anxiousness/Tics
We’ve seen a lot of parents/kids get really great results in our office where we’re able to actually restore that normal curve in the neck which results in a much better quality of life, and this prevents issues from happening later on in life.

Merry Christmas y’all!! ❤️🎄

A few simple tips to help with holiday stress 🎅🏼
- Drink more water than you typically would in order to recover from all the great food and drinks 😅
- Try to get some walking/movement throughout the day. This will help blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity.
- Take a few deep breaths and be present with family members. No matter how crazy it gets, there are others out there that wish they could have that experience. Don't take it for granted.
- 2-3 days of eating/drinking won't ruin anything. Don't be too hard on yourself. Enjoy the food and drinks, and be in the moment.

Why X-Ray??

- X-rays are extremely important because they reveal exactly what’s going on from a structural stand point.

- The structure of the spine will ultimately dictate how it functions. After taking the films we’re able to review them so that we can see where the greatest areas of stress are, bone density, disc health, fractures (new/old), and even congenital anomalies.

- We also look at those x-rays to see exactly what type of force, vector, and speed is needed in order to get the best results for you, and give you the most specific adjustment possible.

"To see is to know, and to not see is to guess."

Does your low back pain have anything to do with your bloating or digestive issues?

An imbalance in your pelvis/sacrum can cause unwanted pressure to form on the nerves that exit from the lowest portion of your spine. These nerves not only control how you walk and run, but they also control how your body relaxes to use the bathroom, and your sexual organ function.

If you’ve been noticing that you have low back tightness/pain as well as constipation, or digestive related issues, the cause is most likely pressure on your nerves that exit your low back.

We see a lot of people see that come in with low back pain/restricted motion, and have also had digestive issues for years.

Chiropractic care can help reduce the pressure on the nerves in your low back, which can ultimately help restore function to other areas of the body as well.

Definitely missing the GA hikes and trails 😩 although walking on IOP and Sullivan’s isn’t too bad of a trade off 😂 ⁣

If you had to pick one forever, would you choose mountain 🏔 life or beach 🏖 life?? 🤔

Not only does chiropractic have many benefits for kids and expecting moms, but we also see little guys like my, 6’4 230-pound friend, Dr. Sean! 😂⁣

It has been shown that proper spinal movement influences proper brain 🧠 function. How would that help you and other athletes in the 💪 gym, or on the field?⁣ 🏃‍♂️

Proper brain function is going to help with:⁣
- Increased Proprioception (knowing where you’re at in time and space)⁣
- Better decision making ⁣
- Increased Hand eye coordination ⁣👀
- Better muscle recruitment⁣
- Faster recovery time⁣

There’s a reason why so many professional athletes utilize a chiropractor in order to have a competitive edge over those that do not. Even though 🐯 Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, and Tom Brady 🐐 are under consistent care, that doesn’t mean you have to be a professional athlete to get the benefits. ⁣

If you’ve been feeling like you’re not getting proper output with your workouts, you’re not recovering quick enough, or you don’t have the energy you once did. Get assessed and see if chiropractic can benefit your performance.⁣

“As long as I see the chiropractor, I feel like I’m one step ahead of the game.” – Tom Brady 🐐

Currently, children and teens are under more stress 😩 than we could ever imagine at their age.⁣⁣
Increased screen time 📱, very little facial/emotional recognition due to masks 😷, prolonged sitting 🪑, and decreased social interaction has created poor mental health patterns not only in adults, but kids and teens as well.⁣⁣
There are countless studies showing that increased screen time causes more anxiety, more behavioral problems, reduced focus, and increased bouts of diagnosed depression. I definitely notice that when I’m spending more time on social media, my patience goes down, anxiety goes up, and overall feelings of connection with others around me goes down as well.⁣⁣
Chiropractic care can help with feelings of anxiety by reducing muscle tension, activating the parasympathetic system (which creates a sense of calm), reducing BP 🧘, and activating key compounds in the body that help reduce stress. Neurotensin and Oxytosin are two of those extremely important compounds 🧬⁣
Neurotensin neutralizes stress induced pain, while Oxytosin boosts neuro-communication and feelings of socially bonding. Two things that are much needed as we continue into the saga of 2020 😂⁣
Christopher always enjoyed getting adjusted, and he was one of the most relaxed kids you’d ever meet. His mom , knows the importance of regular care, and what it does to not only his mood, but his mental well-being during these crazy times as well.⁣⁣

How are you all handling working/schooling from home❓❓⁣

Can pediatric chiropractic help, and how does that even work?? 🧐
Stress can set up shop within a baby’s nervous system 🧠 from something as major as a traumatic birth/stressful pregnancy, to something as “minor” as, daily bumps/falls, and even abnormal sleeping positions 😴 The more stressors, the harder it is to adapt!
Your baby’s perceived environment is built bottom-up and back-forward over time. What do I mean by that?
You live your life through your nervous system. If your baby has problems or difficulties perceiving his or her environment from a physical touch standpoint, this will alter brain 🧠 function as well. When you are getting misinformation from the body to the brain, not only does the body produce dysfunctional patterns, but the brain is not able to function at 100% as well.
If the brain is not functioning at 100%, these poor patterns continue to play out, and eventually these dysfunctional patterns become the, “new normal.” 😨 It’s impossible to grow out of something that was never corrected in the first place.
Our job in helping babies 👶🏼 and kids is to locate the area within the nervous system that is causing dysfunction and apply a very gentle correction to help achieve a better connection 🧷 between the brain and body.

A proper functioning body 💪🏼= a proper functioning brain 🧠 🙌🏼

How do we assess stress within the nervous system?⁣ 😨🧠

The device pictured is called a, “nervoscope.” We run this device down the spine every single visit. It starts at the base of the skull and goes all the way down to the tailbone.⁣

Its sole purpose is to determine exactly where there are temperature 🔥 changes within the skin. Why is this important to you? ⁣🤔

Any inflammatory process within the body causes 5 things; redness, temperature changes, swelling, pain/tenderness, and loss of function. The nervoscope picks up those temperature changes with a deflection of the needle.⁣ ✍️

Like a private investigator 🕵️‍♂️ , that needle deflection is a clue in my mind that there is a problem area within the spine that needs further investigation. If an area within the spine is not motioning properly, this decreases function to not only the surrounding muscle, but also the organ that the nerve innervates as well!⁣ 🆘

This is such a useful tool to determine exactly where your problem areas are located 🎯, and exactly where there is stress within your individual nervous system. It is only one of 5 tools used within the Gonstead system, and I will show the four other tools in future posts!⁣

There should be zero guesswork🙅‍♂️when it comes to your health and wellness, and this device helps me determine exactly where your pain and stress is coming from.⁣ 🙌

What does stress look like in a baby?⁣ 🤱👼

Accumulating stress in an expecting mom can create a whirlwind 🌪of issues in a little baby’s brain 🧠 and nervous system. The nervous system is the first thing that gets developed in utero, and it controls every single function within the human body. That accumulation of stress within mom can become hardwired within the baby’s developing nervous system, and it will manifest itself with a multitude of symptoms. ⁣

A fussy and colicy baby 😫 is the perfect expression of a baby that has been prewired for stress, even prior to the actual birthing process. If you add in a difficult delivery, the baby’s little nervous system will have even more difficulty doing what it does best, which is eating, pooping, and sleeping 😴 . All of which will be difficult if your baby is in a state of not being able to relax due to him or her being in “pedal to the floor,” sympathetic overdrive 🏎. ⁣

Like I discussed in my last post, the parasympathetic nervous system needs to be stimulated in order for stress levels to relax and “pump the brakes.” When the “Rest and Digest” (parasympathetic) portion of the nervous system is getting needed stimulation, your baby is less likely to be fussy, have improved digestion, and have the ability to sleep through the night 🙌🏼. ⁣

By addressing the root issue of stress within your baby, you are able to change their very impressionable brain 🧠 and nervous system at an early age, and ultimately begin to rewire it toward greater health and well-being 🙌🏼🤱🏼

Thanks to Adam and Emma for letting me check little Hank this summer!! ❤️❤️

⁣How can a chiropractic adjustment help with stress?⠀

If you’ve been feeling anxious, on edge, or stuck, this post is for you. It’s important to know that when we are stressed, we do not simply, “grow out” of that state. It is much easier, and even more comfortable for us to actually “grow into” it through negative patterns. ⠀

Stress begets more stress, and when we fall into these unconscious patterns, it can cause us to feel like we’re constantly on the gas pedal, and this is what causes a nervous system to be designed for dysfunction. Most often you see it in the form of symptoms like, chronically tight shoulders, easily agitated, heart burn, poor digestion, trouble sleeping, anxiety, and the list goes on.⠀

The main problem with someone who is stuck in a stressed state is that their sympathetic nervous system is in overdrive. Within the autonomic nervous system, we have three parts, but we’re going to focus on two. Those two parts are the parasympathetic (rest & digest) and the sympathetic (fight or flight). ⠀

When we are constantly stressed dealing with 2020, seeing the news on social media, answering emails, being stuck in traffic, etc., the body and mind become stressed, and unless we actively try to stimulate our parasympathetic nervous system, we can get stuck in a state of imbalance due to sympathetic overdrive. ⠀

In order for the body to heal, digest, breathe properly, have proper immune function, etc., the parasympathetic portion of the autonomic nervous system MUST be activated. If you have tried supplements/other methods to relax you, but have not found a solution, there is hope.⠀

Using a gentle and specific chiropractic correction to the upper neck and sacral region (right above the tail bone), we can actively stimulate these areas that have high parasympathetic innervation. Simply put, by gently adjusting the upper neck or area above the tail bone, we’re able to help stimulate the portion of nervous system that helps the body heal and relax. ⠀

Studies have shown that by using gentle corrections in the upper neck, blood pressure reduces, breathing improves, and patients report a sense of calm following the adjustment.

⁣When the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system is in balance, the body is more adequately suited to heal, improve immune function, and adapt to life’s daily stressors. ⠀

What have you done recently to help reduce your stress, and has it worked?

When I was 22 years old, I experienced my first panic attack. It was unlike anything I had ever experienced. I’ll never forget sitting in a parking lot, looking off at a building, when suddenly, a rush of needing to escape came over me. ⁣

It was the same rush of adrenaline you feel when you’re looking over a 5-6 story building, or when you see blue and red light flashing in your rear-view mirror, but there was no real sense of danger when this occurred. ⁣

For the months following, I was in a heightened sense of sympathetic (fight or flight) overdrive that made my quality of life absolutely miserable. I thought I was literally “going crazy,” as I researched every aspect of what was symptomatically going on in my mind/body, and also bought a dozen books in relation to stress, anxiety, and eventually, depression. ⁣

I tried about 10 different diets, different breathing methods/yoga, and though it helped to some degree, it ultimately did not resolve the root issue. ⁣

It wasn’t until 4 years later that the cause of this dysfunction was finally addressed. What I thought would be a part of my identity forever, was finally lifted through Gonstead care during my second quarter of chiropractic school. ⁣

Stay tuned for my next post to see how chiropractic adjustments scientifically help to regulate the autonomic nervous system and create balance in an individual who is stuck in a sympathetically dominant state.⁣

This picture was taken two months before starting school (summer 2016), I remember being extremely anxious and excited, and as difficult as school was, I would do it 100 times over to help those currently suffering with insufficient answers.

How have you been handling stress in 2020?

Hey, everyone! Thanks for clicking on my page and following along!  My name is, Evan McMillion, and I recently moved back to Charleston, SC after finishing chiropractic school.  With this first post, I want to show you why I got into chiropractic, and what to expect from future posts.⁣

When I was 18, I suffered a lifting injury that literally brought me on my hands and knees into an office in Hurricane, WV.  After following through with his recommended care plan, I was functioning back at 100% without the use of any medication.  It wasn’t until 4 years later that the same injury reoccurred, and at the age of 22, I had a total change in my career choice.  ⁣

While in school, I began to realize that chiropractic care not only helps with pain, but it also helps improve the function of the nervous system.  After receiving specific and scientific Gonstead adjustments, years of chronic anxiety/panic attacks, heartburn, and digestive issues also began to slowly subside.  ⁣

My goal with this page is to show how specific chiropractic care can help with stress in babies, children, and adults, improve nervous system function, and ultimately, bring hope back where it has possibly been lost.  I look forward to empowering you toward better overall health through chiropractic care, and being able to help in any way that I can!⁣

Feel free to shoot me a message on here with any questions, and I look forward to serving you!
