Thank you to everyone who attended last night’s reception for our annual SpringFest show! It was a fantastic evening of art and camaraderie. Thank you to all of the artists who participated in this year’s show and congrats to the award winners!

This year’s Judge, Mary Kamerer, viewed this year’s exhibit and selected the top winners. Mary had this to say about the show:
“Judging this show was not an easy task. Over 100 pieces were submitted in various mediums and substrates. Just as in any race, there is often a small margin between the winners and the rest of the pack. So, it is with this collection. I wish I could give twice as many awards – so many talented, deserving artists’ works. Thank you for permitting me to peruse them all – it was a joy! If you did not receive an award, please know that your work is valued and needs to be seen. Keep creating!”

The award winners are as follows:
First Place Award: The Chain Gang by Dan McCrary, Watercolor (Charlotte, NC)
Second Place Award: Exhausted by Sue Zylak, Oil (Troutman, NC)
Third Place Award: Orchids and Hummingbirds by Natalia Leigh, Oil (Kannapolis, NC)
Judge’s Choice Award: Just Hangin’ by Judy Morrow, Graphite (Mooresville, NC)
Judge’s Choice Award: Summer Cloudburst by Cecilia Borders, Pastel (Mooresville, NC)
Judge’s Choice Award: Oranges and Sunflowers by Lorie Setterberg, Oil (Kannapolis, NC)
Judge’s Choice Award: Amanda by Leena Rosentreter, Graphite (Mooresville, NC)
Judge’s Choice Award: Promenade by Larry Duke, Oil (Cornelius, NC)

Thank you to the Sponsors of this year’s show: @ncartscouncil ; @iredellartscouncil ; SpeakAbility, Inc.; @fourcornersframing ; and @lakenormanrealty – we greatly appreciate your continued support of this event!

Tonight! Join us for the opening of our new show.

Leslie O'Regan is an excited new edition to the Mooresville area. She is a Chicago area native and came to North Carolina via Phoenix AZ. She works in the Supply Chain & Logistics space focusing on product development and system optimization. When she isn't working she spends time with her husband traveling the world and jumping out of airplanes. This love of jumping out of airplanes has led to a new love of the photographic arts. She has joined the Mooresville arts center to expand her skills in photography & share her new found passion with others and maybe make some new friends out of it. Both her and her husband look forward to all their new adventures here in North Carolina!

Volunteer of the Month!💛

The National Charity League of Lake Norman is a mother-daughter organization dedicated to connecting hearts, hands and minds so that every community thrives. The core values are to strengthen the mother-daughter bond; empower women with the skills and confidence to mentor and lead; inspire a legacy of social awareness and compassion; provide depth of support in local communities; honor a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and to model integrity, graciousness, and excellence. The league accomplishes this through three pillars: philanthropy, leadership, and culture.

The Lake Norman Chapter has over 200 members and has volunteered at Mooresville Arts 235 hours in the past calendar year with 66 volunteers.

Alla Prima Portraits Using the Zorn Palette

Dates: Three days - April 5, 6, and 7, 2022

Time: 9:30am – 3:30pm
Instructor: Robin Wellner
Class Size: Minimum of 7, maximum of 12 students

Painting portraits is challenging --- but incredibly rewarding! Simplifying your palette to something you know works will give you freedom to concentrate on other aspects of the portrait. Anders Zorn's limited palette of white, black, yellow ochre and cadmium red will give you a beautiful range of skin tones and virtually guarantee color harmony.

Each morning of this three-day workshop begins with instruction and a demo painted from a live model. After lunch, everyone will have the opportunity to paint the model with lots of one-on-one instruction. We will focus on color, values, facial features and how to measure to achieve a likeness; as well as learning to paint shapes rather than lines.

A strong knowledge and experience with either oils or acrylics is recommended. Although Robin will be focusing on using oils, those with advanced experience working with acrylics will find this workshop valuable as they explore creating portraits from live models.

$310 Members
$345 Non-members
Last day to register March 30, 2022

"This is a challenging class. Robin made it a great class with her demos, clarity of teaching, books, handouts and her own paintings for inspiration. She gives equal care to each class member, as well as her positive spirit and good nature. Her laughter is good medicine and helped us through the pain of learning, trying and doing. Maybe the best workshop I've taken!" Susan Van Wyk "You run your class efficiently and warmly. I'm sure every participant felt encouraged. Loved all your handouts. I will certainly recommend this workshop to other artists." Karen Crenshaw

Sorry for the inconvenience but Mooresville Arts will be closed today (Tuesday, March 8th).

We will resume normal hours on Wednesday and will be open the rest of the week.
