Last week we received the neatest gift from our friends Keith and Leslie @manmadelegends! This special watercolor of Sam "Alex" Beam and his restored Divco Milk truck! Alex was the visionary and curator of Memory Lane Museum, and grew up helping his father on the milk route, taking over as Milkman when his father passed away, he delivered milk before college classes and worked very hard at that business and in every thing he did during his life. A decade ago Alex bought and restored a truck like the one he drove and made it special to Memory Lane with its name. Alex passed away in July, and each of his kids also received a special print so they can always have such precious memories of their father who really was the milkman. Thanks Keith and Leslie for this awesome gift! We will have it on display in the museum when we reopen in January! Stop by and see us and it then.

Please come see our friend, Angela Savage, Friday at Blu Star Grill in Mooresville and get a signed copy of her new book, SAVAGE ANGEL!
Her legendary father, Swede Savage, raced in Indy Car and NASCAR. Swede raced in two Indy 500 races and in NASCAR for Wood Brothers Racing in the #41 Car at the 1969 Daytona 500.
We will be featuring a burger in memory of Swede Savage. Black Angus Burger topped with Swiss Cheese, Avocado and, Lickety Lew’s Yella sauce.

Many of you have reached out wanting to know about a re-opening date so we wanted to give you all an update!

We are working hard to get our building back in order from a water leak in our gift shop area and to get our new schedule posted with some changes following the several months we were shut down due to covid restrictions. We hope to be open in the next month or so and will post our opening announcement and dates/times when they are available.

We have also gotten a bit delayed due to the unfortunate passing several weeks ago of Alex Beam who was the curator and visionary behind Memory Lane Museum. We are thankful for his drive, hard work, and vision that went into creating and spearheading the work of preserving and displaying historical automobiles and race cars over many decades. We look forward to opening up soon to continue his work and to continue sharing the vast historical knowledge and displays with many other visitors in the future. Thank you to all of those who have reached out to us and also prayed for us during this time.

Thank you all for your patience and we look forward to seeing some of our customers real soon!

MEMORY LANE MUSEUM WILL REMAIN CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE:
Nc Governor has required museums continue to be closed until atleast September 11. We also had a water leak a few weeks ago as we were hopefully gearing up to welcome guests after being mandated to be closed since March. Luckily our beloved cars are all fine but we will have to do repairs on our gift shop and building before welcoming guests back in. Please support all your small businesses during this tough time, many like us are facing other challenges on top of mandatory shut downs. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to hopefully seeing you all this fall! Stay tuned for updates on reopening!

One hundred years ago, June 1917, Mooresville purchased the Leazer Building as an office for government on South Broad Street. E. C. Deaton and Z.V. Turlington real estate offered the building at a cost of $3,780,to be paid without interest over three years. The building housed all government functions, including the water department, tax office, fire department, police department and office of the mayor. In 1935, public servants gathered for a photo opportunity. Pictured are A.V. Lowery, street superintendent; Russell Sherrill, water works head, G. M. Kipka, clerk and treasurer; Cleve Eades, policeman; Ralph Eudy, fireman; Sam Nesbit, fireman; and Chief of Police Earl Rimmer. The building was home to the National Guard in 1952 and later demolished to make way for a parking lot.
