Dear friends,
You somehow punctuated a dreadful week in the life of Mooresville K9 Officer Jordan Sheldon's family … and Town of Mooresville NC history … with kindness, compassion and community.
What we witnessed during the past week left us speechless at times and reemphasized why so many – including Jordan – fell in love with this community and wanted to be part of it.
We asked you to help us meet a lofty goal in a short week: raising about $20,000 to finish funding Mitchell Community College's Jordan H. Sheldon Memorial Scholarship by May 4, one year since Jordan was killed in the line of duty.
Instead, through your grassroots efforts and an outpouring of love and support, you helped raise about $50,000 … in one week. As a result, the endowment scholarship bearing Jordan's name will have an initial investment of more than $100,000. That means we doubled the original goal, and Mitchell will be able to award tuition assistance to four Basic Law Enforcement Training cadets each year – forever – instead of the originally planned two.
Here's how you did it:
Sheldon's K9s – a nonprofit named after Jordan to carry-on his love for canines and policing – suspended online fundraising for a week to raise money for the scholarship. The organization exceeded $10,000 through proceeds from 12”x18” blue-line flags that people, in turn, displayed in remembrance of Jordan on May 4.
As SK9 volunteers delivered flags to front porches across Mooresville, friends and neighbors waved and said “thank you” from inside their homes. Despite having already donated, some added an extra contribution when receiving their flags.
We don't know their stories. We imagine some could be out of work, or barely making ends meet with limited work hours right now, because of the pandemic. But they opened their hearts and gave anyway … and then gave even more.
That's love.
Town Commissioner Eddie Dingler's Shop-N-Save was the first local business to jump in to help, asking no questions despite a short-notice request from volunteers. Shop N Save worked hours just to add a “donate” button to cash registers for the cause.
Including Shop-N-Save and SK9, donations to the scholarship from individuals, businesses and organizations topped almost $20,000 – and that doesn't include personal donations made directly to Mitchell Community College. Pet Pilgrimage raised more than $4,200 in a fundraiser featuring goods and services donated by the following amazing friends and businesses: Leigh Walther Photography, Amstar Cinemas/ Jayme Rowland Walker , Kyle and Sarah Elizabeth West, Andrew and Hannah Beck, Angela Carruba Stutts, Triple S Creations and West Rowan Farm, Home, and Garden Inc..
Three personal social-media fundraisers added more than $2,500 to the scholarship drive.
Last but certainly not least, two friends/supporters reached out to several area businesses, and two responded in big ways: Lowe's Corporate Office and Bestco, Inc. added a combined $22,000 to the scholarship fund.
To each and every one of you who helped us reach – and far exceed – this goal: we will not forget your kindness and generosity. Because of you, Jordan will continue making an impact on law enforcement and communities near and far for generations to come. Besides still being here with family and friends, we can't think of anything that would make him happier.

Dear Friends ...
It is with a very heavy heart and deep sadness that I share this with you all. Many of you know our dear friend Dave Stutts of Wolf-Firearms and Survival. Dave and I have partnered together for many years in business and training. Dave has been a very dear friend of mine since we met.
On Thursday, Dave suffered a massive stroke and was transported to LKN Medical Center. Over a 24-48hr period, his condition declined rapidly, and he was admitted to the ICU and put on a ventilator.
Sadly, while in the ICU, Dave’s condition declined, and doctor’s determined that there was not any chance for a recovery. Today at 10am the family said their final goodbyes to Dave Please keep his family and all the people who love and care for him in your prayers.
