As the sun sets on our old I-74 River Bridge here are some facts about the making and popularity of it:
- What we know today as the westbound lanes from Illinois into Iowa opened in 1935
- The eastbound lanes from Iowa into Illinois opened in 1960
- The bridge was designed by engineer Ralph Modjeski (he also engineered the Government Bridge and almost 40 other bridges across rivers all over the country)
- Before 1970, the bridge charged tolls - 15 or 30 cents per vehicle depending on weight
-The bridge became part of Interstate 74 in 1975
- The I-74 Bridge is the most-traveled bridge in the Quad Cities

It's going to a be a busy weekend in downtown Moline.
The weekend kicks off with Mercado On Fifth tonight with the best block of food vendors you'll find this side of the sun.
Tomorrow QC PRIDE will have a Unity Pride Parade starting at the Vibrant Arena at 2:00pm. The parade heads east on River Drive to 19th Street where it will end.
Traffic will be impacted by this, so pay attention, watch for detours or plan your afternoon travels accordingly.
The Project of the Quad Cities will have a Pride Party starting at 3:30pm at Bass Street landing with live music until 10pm.
At 7:30pm Matchbox Twenty will light up the night at Vibrant Arena as we welcome thousands of concert goers to downtown Moline.
For those of you not going to the concert, you will be 'Overjoyed' by heeding our advice to plan ahead and avoid the traffic congestion of downtown.
If you are heading downtown to one of the many great events, 'These Hard Times' in traffic won't last, we will get you moving and to your event on time so chill out and don't turn this into a 'Mad Season'
Plan ahead and utilize a designated driver or ride sharing service 'If You're Gone' so we aren't pulling you over at '3am' because you got 'Bent' which will make your Sunday a 'Long Day'
Speaking of Sunday, it's going to be an explosive start to Father's Day.
Iowa Department of Transportation has decided enough of the old green bridge, let's blow it up.
At approximately 7:00am (weather permitting) controlled explosions will take down the old bridge which means pedestrian, motor vehicle and river traffic will be impacted.
The new I-74 River Bridge will be closed to all traffic for approximately an hour and recreational boating traffic will be closed for up to 72 hours.
We know you midwesterners love to see things blow up, trust us, no one gets any sleep as half of you celebrate July 4 for about a week every year.
Please stay out of the restricted areas until they are deemed safe and reopened to the public. The restricted areas are highlighted below.
Stay safe, plan ahead and have a great weekend Moline. As always we will be there if you need us 💙
