Cali_FID Parrot & Exotics Rescue Sanctuary

Established in May 2011, Cali_FID Rescue is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to aiding exotic pets.

Supported entirely by donations, our volunteer-run organization operates out of foster homes in Modesto, CA. We receive exotic animals ( not dogs, not cats, not wildlife) from the local city and county run animal shelters, vet clinics, pet stores and private citizens. All animals are evaluated for medical and behavioral issues. The sanctuary is for those deemed too medically fragile or too behaviorally unsuitable for life as pets.

Cali_FID Parrot & Exotics Rescue Sanctuary is looking for donations of disposable dog pads / bed pads.

Cali_FID is a legal 501(c)(3) non-profit in Modesto. These pads are helpful for adoption events and small animals receiving care that requires their enclosures to be fully cleaned multiple times.

Donations can be dropped off at the Modesto, Petco during the week ( if they're small and clean ) or every Saturday during our adoption events 1pm - 4pm in our Adoption center at the left side of the store behind the groomer.

So now that our summer has started....warm nights equal less need for sleep.... right??
I went to bed at a sensible time, and actually fell asleep, and then my phone started ringing at 1AM.
I figured it would be a wrong number, but in rescue it's very rarely that.

It turned out to be a call for help from a police department in a city an hour away. They had been alerted to a giant lizard that had been dumped in a neighborhood near a canal just off the freeway. The Officers were keeping a watch over it until I could get there, but no one had enough experience to try handling the lizard.

So, of course I get dressed, load up a crate and blankets go get it.
Now I figured they were exaggerating it's size, as most people do...But not this time.

This Monitor is 5 feet long and weighs over 20 pounds. It's pretty cold right now so I won't know it's temperament for awhile. And since it's legally considered a Stray... I can't post pictures of it yet. But, it's safe now.

Since it's nearly 4AM. I guess I should try for a little more sleep.
