What a week. Thank you to the city employees for all of your hard work. Thank you to my family and to everyone else who has supported me along the way. Most importantly, thank you to the citizens of Mobile for putting your trust in me these past 12 years.

Serving as your mayor has been a blessing and a privilege that I have never taken lightly. I don’t know any words that could adequately capture the gratitude I feel for the opportunity and trust you gave to me. It has certainly been the greatest honor of my life.

Let's go get 'em!

Someone very important at Government Plaza retired today. It's not me. It's Shirley Clark.

For over 10 years, Ms. Shirley has the been heart of the 10th floor and the Mayor's Office. If you've ever visited the 10th floor, you've been greeted by Ms. Shirley in the lobby. To know Ms. Shirley is to love her, and that's why she had two retirement parties this week. Ms. Shirley, we wish you a happy retirement! 🎉

For over a decade, Karen Williamson, my Executive Assistant, has kept us on track and kept me where I’m supposed to be. That is more than a full-time job, given the demands of the office.

For Karen, no job is too large or too small. If something needs to be done, she gets it done. And despite all that it takes to manage the 10th floor at City Hall, Karen always makes time to help others in our office and in the community. Karen loves her job and loves Mobile. She is also loved by all of us.

We couldn’t have done what we’ve done over the last 13 years without her, and I was happy to acknowledge her work as my final Employee of the Month and to present her with a Medal of Excellence. Thank you, Karen!

This morning, I visited our Public Works team to say goodbye. These are some of the hardest working men and women in Mobile, and I'm thankful every day for their dedication to our community.

This morning, we commemorated a transformational investment in one of Mobile's most historic corridors: Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. 🎊 This Complete Streets project will completely rebuild 1.3 miles of "The Avenue" from Butchers Lane to Broad Street with upgraded utilities and drainage, new sidewalks, and bike lanes that will connect to the Three Mile Creek Greenway Trail.

We're excited to see how this project will compliment Mobile County's Civil Rights and Cultural Heritage District — the effort led by Commissioner Merceria Ludgood to preserve and celebrate the people and places that helped shape Mobile’s history. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this project possible!

Much to my surprise, the Mobile City Council introduced an ordinance this morning that officially adopts the blue and green “Iconic M” as the City of Mobile’s official logo. My administration first started implementing the M in 2015, but it was never officially adopted by the City Council.

In addition to approving “Born to Celebrate” as the city’s official slogan, the council today voted unanimously to make the “M” official and, for the first time, put “M” pins on their lapels in a show of unity and fellowship. It was truly a meaningful gesture from a group that I have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside. Thank you all, Mobile City Council.

Yesterday evening, Gulf Distributing Company officially opened its new headquarters and beverage warehouse in the former Mobile Press-Register building. This new headquarters preserves a local landmark while also creating jobs and strengthening the downtown economy. It is truly a game-changer!

We are grateful for Gulf's continued leadership and investment in our community. Congratulations and thank you to the Maisel family and the entire Gulf Distributing team! 🎉
