The MSU student SHRM organization met last night in McCool 117. Our presenter was Virginia Trinkle of Fetch. She shared her experiences with telework and how the teams communicated and were onboarded. The ups and downs of remote work were presented too.

As Mississippi State University prepares for the start of the fall semester, motorists on campus are urged to utilize caution and patience as new traffic changes take effect.
Beginning tomorrow, [Aug. 9], new gates will limit vehicular traffic on Hardy Road and President’s Circle, a move that increases pedestrian safety in the center of campus. Roadways and parking areas inside the pedestrian-focused corridor will be accessible only to faculty and staff with gated parking permits, vendors with parking permits, and SMART transit buses.

Dr. Sharon Oswald, long-serving dean of Mississippi State University’s College of Business, has announced her retirement effective July 1, 2023.
Dean Oswald has led MSU’s College of Business since 2011, steering the unit through an era of growth in academic programs and support for entrepreneurship. Her career has spanned more than 30 years as a teacher and administrator.
Our College of Business family is thankful for Dean Oswald's 12 years of leadership and her tireless effort in advancing Mississippi State's College of Business on a national scale. Happy Birthday to one of our department's Ph.D. candidates, Nawaf Alharbi! He has been with the Management and Information Systems department for almost three years.
Nawaf's favorite place on MSU's campus is the Drill Field. He enjoys walking there to clear his head.

There will be a Celebration of Life Mass on Saturday, July 9th at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 607 University Drive in Starkville, in remembrance of our friend and former colleague, Dr. Danny Holt. Following the mass, there will be a remembrance gathering in the McCool Atrium from 4-6 p.m. All are invited and welcomed to join in on celebrating his remarkable life.
Additionally, Dr. Frank Adams has arranged for the MSU Foundation to dedicate one of the young trees on the Drill Field in front of McCool Hall to Danny Holt's memory. At Kelly Atwood Holt’s request, it will feature a memorial plaque identifying the tree type, Danny’s name, and a comment that it has been donated by “His MSU Colleagues and Friends.”
The donation for the memorial totals $2,500. That includes the plaque, the tree and all future maintenance. If you would like to donate any amount of money for the memorial tree, the information is below.

Happy Birthday, Nadine Rosinski, Saturday! Mrs. Nadine has worked as the Department of Management and Information System’s Office Associate for 33 years. We are so thankful for all that she does for the department.
Mrs. Nadine’s favorite place on MSU’s campus is the Famous Maroon Band practice field. “My son was in the Famous Maroon Band when he was in school here. I always looked forward to going to the Friday afternoon practice.”
Congratulations to Dr. Alan Stancill, chapter advisor, and the Beta Kappa chapter of Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) for achieving Superior Status for the 2021-22 school year! This is the fifth consecutive year that MSU's BAP has been recognized as a Superior Chapter!
BAP is an international honorary organization for accounting, finance, and information systems students and professionals, that encourages and recognizes scholastic and professional excellence in the business information field. This recognition is a significant accomplishment, and the Beta Kappa chapter has distinguished itself as a chapter that excels in the areas of academics, professionalism, and leadership.
The College of Business family is greatly saddened by the loss of former Associate Professor of Management Dr. Daniel T. “Danny” Holt, Lt Colonel (R) USAF, who passed away on June 14, 2022. He was 55.
A native of Kentucky, Dr. Holt earned an electrical engineering degree from the University of Louisville prior to serving for 21 years in the U.S. Air Force as an active-duty officer, where he earned a Bronze Star Medal. After earning a PhD of Management from Auburn University, he taught at the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton.
He began his civilian career at Mississippi State University where he served in the Department of Management & Information Systems from 2010-2019. He later served at Louisiana State University before ultimately returning to his alma mater in August 2021 as Associate Professor and Director of the Entrepreneurship Graduate Programs, Management & Entrepreneurship. Dr. Holt was an active researcher whose work appeared in over 100 journal articles, book chapters and presentations, specifically in areas of entrepreneurship family business, and organizational change.
He is survived by his wife, Kelly, sisters Margaret (Mac) Duncan, Alexia (Bryan) Sheroan and Kim (Brian) Bennett and eight nephews.
Funeral mass will be celebrated 10am Saturday, June 18 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 1920 Newburg Rd. Louisville, KY 40205 with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. MSU is announcing a new Bachelor of Science in Data Science degree program, giving students an additional, innovative career choice that the current marketplace is demanding.

The final student SHRM meeting for the school year was last night! Ms. Adrienne Morris, Human Resources Manager from Aramark, spoke with participants about her path to her current professional position and experiences in human resources. She shared the importance of internships and the opportunities she had from them in working in banking and at WCBI. Lessons learned from her work include the importance having good risk and safety protocols, how to handle grieving and troubled employees, and the importance of being open and willing to listen and change.

Our department along with the finance department had a great social event at the Dudy Noble Rooftop on April 7. It was a great time for faculty and board members to talk, eat, and enjoy the beautiful view.
Dr. Bob Otondo, Dr. Patty Ann Bogue, and Dean Oswald had the honor of inducting members into the Mississippi State Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma on April 8th. These students represent the top 10 percent of senior, junior, and second-semester sophomore classes as well as 20 percent of master’s students selected for membership.
Guest speaker Lt. Governor Amy Tuck was also in attendance for the Beta Gamma Sigma Induction Ceremony.
