Neely Brunt is a first-year clinical mental health counseling student at Mississippi State. She is currently working as a graduate assistant at the Disability Resource Center on campus.
Recently, Neely received an award for her outstanding work, the Graduate Assistant of the Year – First Year award. This award is given to the graduate assistant who supports student success and the advancement of the Division of Student Affairs, demonstrates exceptional service and commitment to campus/student needs, promotes a collaborative/sustainable environment, and exemplifies originality and creativity within their role.

Doctoral students Jasmine Carter and Chiquita Holmes and one faculty, Dr. Looby, in the Counselor Education and Supervision program, attended and presented at the Mediterranean Region Counseling Association (MR-CA) Conference in Wiesloch, Germany, on March 14-15, 2024.
On March 14, Chiquita Holmes, Dr. E. J. Looby, and Jasmine Carter presented two topics, Calling In: Examining Unconscious Bias and Using Expressive Arts to Promote Mental Health, Equity, and Advocacy Globally.

Dr. Looby, a Professor and Program Coordinator in our Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program, and four doctoral students recently published in the SAGE Encyclopedia of Multicultural Counseling, Social Justice, and Advocacy.
Dr. Looby published two articles, Color Blindness and Enculturation; Kimberly T. Gray published, Attitudes Towards Seeking Counseling; Lindsey Donald published Me Too Movement; and Chiquita Holmes published two articles, Jim Crow Laws, and Mental Health in Rural Communities.

On March 22, the Counselor Education program held an Emergency Preparedness Training Colloquium for all COE graduate students. Two faculty members and 34 graduate students, including two Ph.D. students, participated in this colloquium in person or virtually. The Director of Emergency Management, Brent Crocker, and Assistant Director, Natasha Cundy, were the speakers and provided significant emergency preparedness presentation techniques for all attendees. The first half of the session was entitled “Until Help Arrives,” which covers simple steps someone can take during an emergency until more trained responders arrive. The second half was about “Active Attack” situations.
